Well one day some aliens landed on Jupiter.

So a guy named Dark_AleX went and beat them up,
They had little batteries that seemed to fit in PSPs.

So he put one in and his PSP set on fire.

Then he laughed and made his own that downgraded to 1.5.

The end.

Actually it just took time+research+more time.

@CK,
Rubber, Velcro, Super Glue, And Penicillin were all found on accident.
=D

Generally don't bother asking these kind of questions, they have very long stories including many people...

First of all it's not a trick, Sony designed the PSP like that for a reason, they put it there, along with that chip in the battery pack.

The reason they designed it like that was so that they could recover bricks that people sent in (I mean, if you were Sony and someone sent in a bricked PSP to fix, you'd rather charge them lots of money for nothing, instead of a new PSP, right? It's all about profit), so, they went and made the JigKick.

Now, people most likely wondered how Sony fixed bricked PSPs, as this would be a great thing to use with the HB community, and for a while there were a lot of rumours about the fabled JigKick and how it did what it did. Unbeknown to us at the time, there was a team (The Prometheus project) working on their own version of it for HB use, keeping the world in the dark, so Sony wouldn't find out and change the design of the Slim PSP (Which was still in development at that time) so as to make the JigKick not work.

Then there were some Chinese/Japanese guys that posted a video on YouTube showing this fabled JigKick in action on a bricked PSP, now, as we didn't know much about it at the time, there were a lot of calls for "Fake" and the evidence was somewhat disregarded. Then finally on the 22nd of August this year, this news was released by NOObz: http://www.noobz.eu/joomla/news/pandoras-battery.html

This was the official release of the hard work of the Prometheus project, somewhat before time, this also confirmed that the YouTube videos were real, and that they were leaked, early versions of the now called "Pandora Battery".

Quote:
Unfortunately something happened to shatter the idyll. Somehow, the unbricker was leaked into the wider world before it was ready to be released. Whether this was deliberate, by one of the team members, or accidental via a security breach is still unclear. The fact is that this unbricker appeared on the black market, being sold for huge prices. As far as we know, it is probably very close to the same software that appears in at least some of the 'magic unbricker'/'jigkick' videos.

So, although the time was not right to release this (it would have been wise to wait at least until the PSP Slim release), our hand has been forced.
The Pandora Battery has undergone quite a few changes since then, but the key Battery/Memory Stick combo has remained the same.
