I've read a couple different views on google about the subject and was't really sure which side to take
Some people say to turn off your ps2, you should put in stand-by mode then turn the power switch off.
Some people say you shouldn't even turn the power switch off because of the sudden surge of electricity will make it more apt for malfunctions when turning it back on.
Basically you're leaving your ps2 semi-on all the time, all day, all week, all month, all year.
But my question is, is that safe?

i leave mine on standby (red light) all the time, and its had no problems. my v7 is a brand new unit from 2001(?) and it's still running like a champ; better than before since it has a hdd now.
never switch off the ps2 fully (rear switch) when it's still running (green light). that can cause problems later on.
ps2: v7 scph-39001 - independence exploit - hdloader 0.8c - maxtor 300gb hdd

I wouldn't do it. Not good to have constant power to it.

Alright thannks, will do.
I guess stand-by's good if you plan to use it again during the day, but if not, maybe it's time to power down.

mine has a 300gig maxtor hdd, and i still have it on standby. it's not going to get fried or anything; the hdd only gets powered when the system is on, not on standby.
it's completely safe to have a ps2 on standby.

I have V16!
I when done with it.
put it in STAND-BY.
Then switch the power off.
I have heard several places that in some countries(and in Tom & Jerry) you dont have a switch to stop power supply to the pin(plug) you just plug-in and out, thats DANGEROUS!
:/

ya some people skip the whole stand by part and go straight for the power switch
i think that could be detrimental if you were just playing off your hdd
