Hi there!

My name's Tom. I saw good advice being given so I though, "I'll post...".

I'm thinking about getting a slim PSP for Christmas, or after Christmas. I want to be able to play the games from the memory card, so It'll need to be upgraded/downgraded/flashed - whatever you call it. My Chinese friend has his done, but it's a year (or more) old, so he used an old method which was dodgy and had a chance of bricking your PSP up. Now, I want to know a few things.

1) I want it to be simple to upgrade/downgrade - what's the best method? My friend has M33 or something... I know I'll have to check the system version, I will do when I get it.

2) Will I be able to play games straight from the card once I've put them on - my friend has to have a disc inserted so it thinks it's reading from a disc.

3) Could my PSP get bricked and not work?

Thanks, and sorry for the long post!

Hey!

Hi TOM (What an original name)

2. Yes, drag and drop , very easy

3. yes but u can use pandora to fix it. U are going to need one extra bettery (the old fat psp battery) get it from the Chinese guy, ask him about the pandora

Always glad to help . Merry Christmas

Thanks!

Is there a way to do it without the battery thing? Because I'd have to buy another battery, which they only seem to come with PSPs.

Is there another way? And, how does it all work? My friend has games on a memory card, inserted into the memory card slot with 3 games and the M33 thing (so you can view pictures, movies, go on the web etc...) but to play games he has to put any disc into the disc slot so the PSP thinks it's reading from a disc, when it's not. I've read all you have to do is put the games on the card in the X:\ISO folder?

Can somebody explain how it manages to allow it to work, is it certain versions that work with it... and what about new slims, would they need upgrading or downgrading...

I just need a simple way.

Thanks again!

Merry Christmas to you too!

The only option you have is Pandora battery + Magic memory Stick.

You don't need an extra battery if you backup the battery EEPROM. This is a backup of the battery serial and key information. Having a backup will let you recover the Battery back to normal after doing the install.

Your best bet would be to ask your friend (that plays ISO on his PSP) to help you create the Pandora Battery + Magic Memory Stick with his custom firmware PSP.

This will allow you to install 3.71 M33 to your new PSP SLIM (SLIM can not be downgraded to 1.50 all you can do is install custom firmware to it).

HERE is a guide your Friend could follow to create the Pandora battery + Magic memory Stick so you can get custom firmware to the new PSP SLIM.

If your friend will not help you out you can always use this guide HERE to create the Magic memory Stick with your Official Firmware PSP SLIM but you will need to either buy a Datel Tool Battery or Hardmod your battery if it is a compatible battery that can be Hardmodded.

I got a PSP slim. Software version is 3.60. So does that allow me to choose another route?

Hey,

I have FW 3.60 (official FW) my mate has a fat psp (mines slim btw) but he can't do pandora battery, don't ask why, I don't know. But he has a "Magic memory card" now, which he'll let me use.
Is there anyway to upgrade my 3.60 to 3.71 M33 without pandora but with magic memory card?

Thanks.

Also, my mate has a Magic Memory card 2GB, which I can use.

So that's all I need?

Should work for you. But I duno anything about the site that is selling it. But not a very good Friend if he won't let you use his Pandora Battery but will let you use his magic memory Stick.

It wouldn't take him long to convert his battery if it is a FAT or SLIM and let you use it then convert it back to normal.

Hey,

He's a good friend - we tried yesterday but it just wouldn't work. :S

He said something about his CFW was a problem, (he's on 3.71-3 M33 I think) if you can link me to a guide where we can make the pandora and then change it back to normal please tell me!

Try using this application HERE. Download the ospbt_0.4.zip version.

It works on 3.XX custom firmware.

Extract the file and drag the ospbt folder to the /PSP/GAME folder.

Run the application via Game Menu Memory Stick.

Make sure you backup the battery eeprom by selecting "backup battery eeprom to ms0:/eeprom.bin" before converting it.

Then go to "convert battery to service mode (aka Pandora battery)".

When you get done unbricking/installing the custom firmware to your PSP convert it back by running the application again and choose "write serial only from ms0/eeprom.bin"

Thanks, I'll test it! Cheers!

I wont be able to meet up with him until a week or so, but I saw this on that link you gave me:

0.3 updates:
- tested as working on a slim battery (do not use full EEPROM write! see next addition)
- added option to restore only the serial from a dump instead of the full dump
- added an elf folder for use with jas0nuk's elf menu (put both the elf and prx into ms:/elf/ folder)

I can use my slim battery!?

You need to use a custom firmware PSP to convert it. A SLIM Battery can not fit into a FAT PSP so if his PSP is a FAT then no you can not use your SLIM to convert the battery in his FAT PSP.

But if he has a SLIM that has custom firmware on it then yes you cam. Or after he uses his FAT Battery to install custom firmware onto your SLIM then you could use your SLIM at that time to convert your SLIM battery to a Pandora Battery.
