Ok here is my deal. I use avi film clips and convert them with Film Machine, using CCE encoder vbr multipass three passes. I then burn with nero to DVD. I have a widescreen television. Most clips that i convert to DVD are setup already in that aspect ratio (16:9). My issue is that almost always I end up with black bars on the bottom and top of my picture. Since the original film clip is widscreen and my tv is widescreen how come the final burnt DVD does not fill the whole picture?
Any help/tutorials on how to change or correct this would greatly be appreciated, as long as it does not crop or distort my final DVD's quality.

I don't normally work with AVI clips, nor do I work with them on my widescreen TV. However, just know that there are numerous types of widescreen displays. There's 1:85, 2:35, and a couple of others. Going back to earlier days, there was panavision, cinescope, and etc. etc. There was a thread like this back in the PS3 forum that I mentioned.
Films/clips that are ENHANCED for 16:9 TVs, will NOT produce black bars at the top and bottom. Widescreens that are say, 2:35, will still have the black bars on top.
