I recently had my PSP modified to run 3.40 OE-A. Everything is fine. I have loaded a couple of ISO images onto my memory stick and they are working. However, I am having some problems with the Recovery Mode Main Menu. I hold down the R" key and power on my PSP, after about a 1 minute the turquoise recovery screen appears. When I press any arrow key (or any other key for that matter) the screens goes black and does not return for another 1 minute. The selection I make does take effect but I have to wait approx. 1 minute for every key stroke!

Is this normal? Does anybody have a solution for this?

PS - It should be noted that it did seem to work without any delay once when I first explored the Recovery Menu.

Try the brightness button ....
Or the CPU Clock... it should be set to default by default..

I just wanted to thank N01NOob for his "brightness button" tip, it worked! I'm not sure what the connection to the brightness button was but I'm just thankful for the support.

Can I be so cheeky as to ask another question...what are the features/bug-fixes that are available in the later releases (e.g. 3.71m33)...? I am contemplating upgarding.

in 3.71 M33 you will only put the Themes in PSP/THEMES soyou won't flash anymore lowering your chance of bricking your PSP...
and in 3.71 M33 there is the M33 Driver and SonyNP9660 wchich will enable you to play ISO/CSO without a UMD...(this feature is also available on 3.52 M33)
And there is the new popsloader but I don't know much aboutit cause I am not using it...
Anyways this is it I think but there still could be more..
But hoped I answered your question..

There are allot of new features with 3.71 M33.

As N01NOob stated...

new THEMES folder for PTF custom firmware themes.

Sony NP9660 NO UMD driver which is the best NO UMD driver available.

Plus a few others like...

VSH menu which is a menu that comes up by pressing the select button when in XMB which brings up a mini-menu of some settings in the recovery menu like...

CPU XMB/UMD speed

USB Device setting to change USB between Memory Stick, flash 0/1/2/3, and UMD Bay

UMD ISO Mode where you select the NO UMD driver like Sony NP9660.

ISO Video Mount to mount ISO Movies to play.

It has a built in UMD ripper.

It has an option for popsloader plugin that lets you emulate different kernel versions when playing PSX games which makes PSX compatibility much better.

If you want to install 3.71 M33 then go HERE and follow this guide which will create a Pandora Battery + Magic memory Stick that will install straight to 3.71 M33-2 custom firmware (this method is the safest).

Or if you want to do it manually go HERE to update to 3.52 M33-4 (which needs to be done before going to 3.71 M33-4).

Go HERE to update to 3.71 M33-4 (make sure your at 3.52 M33-4 before going to this).

I would also like to add this(just in case you brick your PSP while on 3.71 M33 so you won't get a full brick by using the wrong recovery files....)

The recovery files that is used to downgrade OE/3.52M33
Isn't working now in 3.71 M33

But there are new recovery files for 3.71 M33 so if you want to downgrade your 3.71 M33 don't use the old ones just use the new one....
:)

EDIT: Here's a guide by larrylje so all credit goes to him :)

i think that's what I meant...
cause last time when 3.71 M33 was released I upgraded to it...
Then I messed with the flash0 then I got semi bricked then I used the wrong recovery files and I got a full brick pandora was my only solution... I later researched on how to downgrade 3.71 M33 properly and I found out that the old recovery files don't work anymore that's why there is a new recovery file for 3.71 M33
:)

Yeah, i know...but a semi brick is different from a full brick.

Semi-Brick - Can Access Recovery.....Can use recovery files.

Full Brick....NAND Or pandora can only be used....and NAND uses pandora...So i guess pandora is the only way to fix.

Thank you all for support. It's great to see that people are still willing to help over the Christmas break.

I guess this thread is closed unless you guys want to continue discussing the finer points of upgrading/downgrading :-)

Yep it has a built in ripper....
What you want to do is first of all have a UMD in your PSP...
now go and press select in the XMB and is should bring up the VSH Menu then go to USB Device and select UMD Drive...then usb mode should toggle but instead of your MS your UMD will be shown so you could just drag and drop the ISO in your COM....

The guide you linked to above shows how to recover 3.71 M33 to 1.50 both using Game Menu and Recovery Menu. So why do you need a guide when you already linked to 1?
