Hi. Today I got a PSP for Christmas with 3.40 custom firmware installed. I tested it when I got it a few days before and it would load UMD's fine.
However, today, when I put my UMD in, I hear a weird noise like a very quiet whining, and the disc occasionally spins. The little circle is in the corner showing it's loading, but nothing happens.
Whenever I try to play an ISO as a result, nothing happens as it can't load the UMD. I've
Is there any way in which I can solve this problem without dismantaling the PSP completely, or is it broken for good. Or can I play ISO's without a UMD in my PSP (I've tried enabling the option in Recovery mode but it didn't work).

It's probably too late for me to try this at the moment as I am going to another person's house for dinner. I will try this when I get back and let you know if it works or not.

A quick question. I have custom firmware 3.40 currently. Do I have to downgrade to 1.5 then upgrade to 3.52, or do I just go straight to 3.52. I'm guessing I must downgrade first as I tried using the 3.52 installer on my PSP and it didn't work.

OK, I've gotten as far as installing 3.71. I now need to install the 1.50 kernel. However, I am not sure where I should put the files. It says put the 150.PBP file in the root of the PSP, but I'm not sure what folder this means. Where do I put the two files to get them to run the program (I tried this once and got an error message so I'm doing something wrong).
Thanks

You need to put the 150.PBP File into the root where MUSIC VIDEO ISO ETC. Folders are located.. but not inside of those folders... then the second one which is the update folder should be located in ms0:/PSP/GAME/ or in other words in the GAME FOlder...

if you already have 3.71m33
backup what you need from the memory stick ,and format the memory stick in the psp ,it will create all the necessary folders
then download the kernel 150 addon 2 ,extract and inside the 150kernel_addon2 folder is a UPDATE folder put this folder in the GAME folder
ms:\PSP\GAME\UPDATE
then put the 150.PBP in the root of the memory stick ,the 150.PBP doesn't go inside of any folder ,the root of the memory stick is the first window you see when you connect your psp to your pc
ms:\150.PBP
then run the update
for the other updates you can go straight to 3.71m33-4
you dont need to install update 2, then 3 and then 4

OK, I have now installed all the updates, and all games work fine now. Well, I did have one issue with a game, but this was easily solved by disabling an option in the advanced menu in Recovery Mode.
Thanks very much to everyone here, your lifesavers :)
