umd drive makes a clicking sound

hey when i start up my psp i hear a clicking noise where the umd should go. it looks like the laser is trying to go to the right when it cant so it skips, this cant be good for it, but i have no idea whats causing it. i can usually load up a umd if i power off my psp for half an hour or so, but then in 20 minutes it starts again.. i have 3.71 m33, but it was doin it when i had 3.40 oe-a too, any help would be appreciated

This sounds like hardware not software. =\

Well my suggestion is to rip or download your Umds and just play Isos.

Or send it in to Sony, but make sure you have a Pandora ready to go because they aren't going to send you a PSP with CFW on it.

Oh and just so you know you don't have to put "potaholik" at the end of your thread, they have signatures for that. =D

you dont need a umd in the drive to play the games
go to recovery menu and in change the UMD Mode to sony np9660

u mean when u play umd game and after some time the umd cd cannot be loaded. when u switch it off and after 20 minutes it gets ok. i had the same problem in ps2 but when i cleaned out my laser with a soft tissue paper. it got okay. it needs to be cleaned.

ya thats what i do is rip them to my computer, but sometimes like with gta vcs, its 1.6 gigs and it takes to long to load, and starts clicking, then it ends the copy. ill try cleanin it, and if that dont work fuck it, ill just send it back..... thanks for all the help, its greatly appreciated :)
