I was playing an online free-for-all match last night and when the round ended (to go back to the lobby) I had the pop up box that appears when you first log on that says "downloading game data" (or something similar). I was at rank 39 and had complete a lot of challenges etc... In the background I see my rank has been reset to level 1. I cant get rid of the box or do anything = I can't play online. The box just stays there. I left it for over 30 minutes and it didnt do anything. This box usually appears when I first log on to online play and lasts 5 seconds max.

I've looked in the forums but I can't find anything that helps!

The only thing I can think of is to delete my game data in the xmb but that would mean I'll have to do the whole lot again. I really don't want to do this as Ive already completed the game twice and got all 30 intels and played approx 25hrs of online play as well.

Can anyone help???

Problem solved, I deleted my game save and downloaded someone elses game save that was posted on the net and copied that to my PS3. The game save was the same as what I had done and as for online my user profile is stored online and it worked. I'm back to rank 39 and all completed challenges intact.

The only thing that changed was my created class name... strange. It remembered my created class but the name was reset.

The only thing I can think of is that my save file was corrupt.
I hope this helps anyone who has had or might have this problem.

www.gamefaqs.com

find the platform and game you want, there are different tabs, one of which is game saves.

So has the same happened to you?

My existing save data that I think was corrupt I copied to my SD card in my PS3 just incase, then I downloaded the save file from the website and unziped it onto my usb flash drive. I then put that into my ps3 and copied the save game from the flash drive to my ps3.

I then loaded cod4, went to multiplayer - online and it worked. My level 39 rank was back!

The same thing did happen to me last night. I was playing free for all and after the match ended it says it was downloading something. I waited a few minutes and I noticed that the 3 dots that would normally flash when the game is about to start or is loading a settings have stopped flashing. I then turned off my PS3, restarted and proceeded to go and try and get online again. When I clicked on "play online" its said it was downloading the setting. I waited and waited and nothing. The only sound it was making was the same sound the game makes when a player leaves a lobby when a match is in intemission. Also It says I am back to levgel 1 which would suck cause I just got a wicked new assault rifle :(

It did that to me last night, but started working again so I thought nothing of it. Now this morning when I join a game I have to wait for players every time and they never come.

That happened to me also. I was playing one time then got off and later that night when I tried to get on it said downloading game settings and would never leave there. The problem was fixed for when after I just waited for a few hours with my PS3 off. So Im assuming you guys didnt need to delete anything, just wait until the servers reset itsself I guess.
