Playing Bluray Backups off External HD

I've been reading up on how to play backup blurays off the PS3 HD, so I just wanted to check if my process was correct. My PS3 firmware is 2.10 and my computer's HD is formatted to FAT 16.
So anyways...
1. Format the external HD to FAT32.
2. Use Swiss Army Knife on the PS3 to rip the bluray to the external HD.
3. Connect the external HD through USB to my computer.
4. Use a filesplitter to split the video files into sizes less than 4 gb. on the computer because the PS3 can't handle larger files than that.
***Since my computer is only FAT16, would it be able to view the video files if they are larger than 4 gb?***
5. Use VLC Media Player to convert the files to a format that the PS3 can play.
Would this work?

argh.. if you dont wanna pay full then wait till the game drops in price... but i guess thats not in keeping with the question is it? sorry mate cant help ya.
although,,,, why is it fat 16, what OS do you use?

oh ok.. does it support a blu-ray drive? i cant see anyway to read it otherwise.

Everything is correct,but what i cant understand is WHY your computers Harddrive is FAT16(the maximum partition size is 2gb).
Your Computers Harddrive should be NTFS.
Check here for file size limits on Harddrives.

Yeah my bad. It's FAT32 (only allows max 4 gb files right?).
So I would have to format the external HD to NTFS instead.
My only worry is would my comp be able to see the video files since it is FAT32 and (I'm guessing) the video files would be larger than 4 gb?
If it works, then I could just encode the files through VLC into a compatible format, transfer it to the external HD, and play it off there?

The PS3 only understands FAT32,a Windows computer understands FAT16 FAT32 and NTFS.
