i alwayz want to put a mod chip in my ps2 but i don't know where to start. i see that there are a lot of chips out there and don't know what to buy and how to solder it in. So can anyone tell me about chips, where is a good place to buy and how to install it?
solderless chips aren't worth it. sometimes you'd have to solder them on just to get them to work, or to keep them working. it's better to pay more for the solder version.
stick to the matrix infinity green dot, DMS4 lite or pro, or crystal chip 2.0. the best three modchips that are out. they are more beneficial to the fat ps2 because the fats can use a IDE HDD (with network adapter), and the chip can run ps2 elf files, completely bypassing the ps2 laser.
next, don't you have to know which modchip is compatible with your ps2?
how can i find that out? i can't just pick one and buy it. what is the best place to buy it and wat ever place i buy it from do they show me the diagram be4 i buy it? i want to know if its easy to understand or not.

You need to know which version PS2 you have. We know it is the fat one, but there are different model numbers (motherboard versions) of the fat one. Do a google search on "What's my ps2 version?"
Honestly, I am not sure where to buy those chips for the US anymore. As far as I know, they discontinued making the Matrix and the dms. Someone else can help with that, I'm sure.
