I received a TOOL battery today and am trying to get my 3.71 OFW SLIM into CFW. I have tried using the TotalNewbieInstall (followed directions and tried like 10 times) yet I can't get it to work.

This is what happens -
After creating the magic stick I insert the TOOL and the psp autoboots to a black screen.....and thats where it sits. Doesn't matter if the stick is already inserted or inserted after, and the battery is 100% charged.

Whats the deal here? How do I know if the TOOL is the problem or the stick?

If the psp autoboots to a black screen does that guarantee the TOOL is working?

Also, I checked to see if my memory stick is legit (would think it is as it came with my Daxter psp slim bundle) and found something weird. Even though my PSP says its "MagicGate: Supported", I checked the serial number and it does have an extra T (MSX-M1GST)

So, what do you all think is the problem here? The TOOL battery, the memory stick, or is there another program I can try to create my stick that will work with my slim? (got the totalnewbie from QJ.net btw)

Sorry for the long winded post but I am trying to be as descriptive as possible. Thanks!

Do the wireless and CPU usage light on the left side blink? when you put the magic stick there?

you're not suppose to see a menu when using the totalnewbi installer; you have to do a blind install. press x after the psp turns on by itself. if the memory stick light blinks, then it's working.

ps2: v7 scph-39001 - independence exploit - hdloader 0.8c - maxtor 300gb hdd
(+[__]%) psp slim ta-085v1: 6.60 PRO B10
wii (powered by bootmii/priiloader): 4.1u - d2x v10beta53-alt (base 56) - configurable usb loader v70r51/devolution r188 - wd scorpio black 7200rpm 320gig w/ ams venus ds2 enclosure

got a whole lot more to list . . .

thanks for the quick reply's. Ok, I will create the mms again, then put the TOOL in with the MMS already inserted, wait a bit and try pressing x....and wait some more.

Ill post back on whether it works or not. Thanks.

Ok, I am not getting even one flash of the ms light. Tried with MMS already inserted and inserting after.

At this point should I be blaming the memory stick? Even though I got it in a daxter pack i guess it is possible to be fake. And even though my psp says magicgate supported the extra T in the serial number means its still a fake correct? Do fake memory sticks just plain not work for what I am trying to so or are they just frowned upon in general?

Ok well I fixed my problem (sort of)

For some reason the TotalNewbieinstaller was not creating my MMS correctly. I used a different method to get CFW and my MMS was accessed normally allowing me to use a menu (I know you are not supposed to see a menu with the TNI, but it was not even accessing the MMS).

For anyone who also cannot get the TNI to work here is what I used.

Just follow the guide word for word and you should be golden. HOWEVER, at the end it is missing some critical info that bricked my PSP (gotta go to a friends and add the file using a digital camera now). Don't just add the KD,Registry, and msipl.bin as shown in the last screenshot. Make sure you have the 371.pbp added to the root also. I bricked my psp thinking it would load from the 3.6 cfw or whatever he said in the guide but it will actually look for the 3.71 and if its not their ur SOL. Yes, I am a newb, but hopefully this will help someone...
