If I download updates through wi-fi internet connection on unmodded wii, will it affect wii later if I decide to mod it?

After checking my serial number on that serial tracking site, it's likely I have D2C console - do I have to worry about this or will the place I go to to mod it do the thinking for me ;p?

My dvd drive doesnt seem to enjoy reading my original wii discs, but i'd like to use backups of them, anyone know of a good location to find them online?

Nope

The modder will have to put a either a D2CKey or the new Argon chip which I don't think is out yet.

You can make your own backups of your original games. Read the sticky to find out how.
