Folding@Home is an application that helps the understanding of protein folding and misfolding. But that's not all.
Folding@Home also gives information to scientists so they can get cures for many serious dieseases faster and how they work, such as Cancer, Multiple Sclerosis, Alzheimer's Diesesase, Mad Cow Disease, and more.
You see, when you download and install F@H, F@H downloads a 'work unit' onto your PS3. Then, MANY calculations and computations are preformed on your PS3. The Cell Proscessor calculates how a cure calulated on the PS3 would work and what effects it would have on the human body. When computation and calculations are finished, the work unit is uploaded back to Stanford University for analysis, so scientists and Doctors can examine the work unit, so they can get cures for dieseases faster.
