Hi All,

New to the forum, heard so much about the psp threads on here that I just had to give it a go myself ;) appreciate the help

So finally I've decided to buy a PSP (slim), and have been looking at ways to get 1.71M33-4 on it, which I believe to be the latest CFW for the PSP (is this true? Are there any better CFWs out there I should be looking into?)

Anyway I think I get the general idea and my research tells me that I have the following options:
- buy a datel battery (no idea how this works! like http://www.amazon.co.uk/Max-Power-Tool-Battery-PSP/dp/B000W4HSHC/ ? )
- get someone to lend me a CFW psp (I think my friend has a CFW fat PSP)
- buy a pandora battery from ebay (dodgy dealings =/ rather not)
- HARDMODDING *gulp*

Any other easier ways?

~So my question is: if I buy a new PSP Slim and can borrow my friends PSP, which I think is fat CFW (not sure about the CFW version, I'll ask), then whats the best guide to get the latest CFW on my new PSP slim? (with least hiccups/risk)

3.71 m33-4 is the latest firmware

if u have a friend that has a CFW that would b better than buyin a new battery, just get him to make the pandora battery and convert it bac lata.

then follow this guide

link HERE

my (+[__]%) life

2.81 -> 3.71-> 3.71 m33-2 -> 3.71 m33-3 -> 3.71 m33-4 -> 3.80 m33 -> 3.80 m33-2 -> 3.80 m33-4

saddest (+[__]%) moment

i upgraded to 3.71

ok thanks for your advice. I think I can use my friend's PSP, beats paying an extra £20! Are there any more descriptive (step by step) guides I could use?

He says he is using "3.5sumfin OE i fink" firmware, will that be ok?

Also I was wondering if I will be needing a phat PSP battery after I've installed CFW on my slim? like for upgrading to a new CFW version? Or to install CFW on another friend's PSP?

If your friend has OE then yes use this guide HERE.

You can not get anymore descriptive then what I have already got in the guide.

As for your second part of the question. Once you get custom firmware to your PSP you can make a Pandora Battery + Magic memory Stick with your PSP.

You could always buy a FAT Battery and convert it to Pandora as a backup in case you ever need to unbrick your PSP SLIM. But other then that there is really no reason to have a backup.

If you want to add custom firmware to a friends PSP just use your PSP and the guide above to do it. Same as updating custom firmware. if you ever need to use a Pandora battery + Magic memory Stick to do so you already have a custom firmware PSP that can get the job done.

OK gotchya ;)
Thank you all, and happy new year! Ordered my PSP =D

Three things that have been bothering me:
1) everyone keeps saying I need a "spare memory stick"! Why spare? Can't I just format it after I've flashed my psp to 3.71M33-4 and use it for whatever I was using it for before? I have a 1GB duo in my sony phone so I was going to format and use that if I can format it later on and use it in my phone again. (since I'll be buying a 4GB for the PSP)

2) What is the deal with this 1.5 kernel add-on #2 I hear about? Is it not for slim? Am I losing some functionality by not having this? How can I get it too?

3) I'm guessing the phat battery will fit fine in a slim case? Or else none of these guides would make sense...

Your correct you don't need a spare Memory Stick. You can format it and use it as normal after installing the custom firmware to the PSP.

The 1.50 kernel is for 1.50 based homebrew applications. PSP SLIM is not compatible with 1.50 kernel add on. But most homebrew applications have been ported to the SLIM anyway. HERE is a list of homebrew applications that will and will not work on the SLIM. The ISO/CSO PSP games are not considered homebrew so all PSP games will work on your SLIM.

The PSP FAT Battery will fit into your SLIM PSP so you can use a FAT Pandora for your SLIM.

So do you have to have a phat to make a pandora battery (pdb) and then format and make a magic memory stick (mms)?

What are the standards of the phat battery? 3.6v?

Let's say I get a mem duo pro 512mb stick and an phat batt, I can only make a pdb, mms on a phat psp? Because of the 1.50 kernal?

My Plan is just that, then get a 4gb stick for useage and sit the phat pdb batt, pdb aside for recovery use and downgrading only.

I just got a white slim, looks like someone bricked it.
off of ebay sold as is, hasn't been shipped yet, so i don't know for sure, but I figure that's what the problem is.

It just says the unit won't power on, sounds to me like someone screwed with it.

I should be able to recover with the ac and the R shoulder button.
Then flash, from what I read.

Anyways just would like to know about the pdb and the mms.
Just trying to make sure I've got this right.

Thanks

Awesome! The same day I received my PSP I was able to flash it to 3.71 M33-4 ... also this is the same day 3.80 M33-2 was released but I think I'll get used to the 3.71 before I jump up to the next one.

Thank you all for your help, especially larrylje for his great guide that I followed word to word without any problems.
I'd like to know if I can use the same guide to make a pandora battery out of my slim PSP's battery to flash my friend's PSP?

Also can anyone suggest some good must-have homebrew software?
I'll be reading manga on my PSP so I'll be using pepviewer, any better suggestions?
Is it possible to view DivX/XviD files without modification from the PSP? A homebrew application that would do this perhaps?

Thanks in advance. Cheers ... I'm off to play with my new CFW'd PSP @ 3am ... have to be up by 8 but I care not xD

What is it your trying to do?

The link provided above is a Unbricker but also can be used to install 3.71 M33-4 to any FAT/SLIM PSP.

@PinoProxy

You should be able to use the guide and your SLIM Battery to install 3.71 M33-4 onto your friends PSP.
