Installing Wiikey AFTER Latest System Update

I just now was able to connect my launch day Wii to the internet and was asked to update. It warned me about modded systems and I got a little nervous, although I've been procrastinating on installing my Wiikey so I really shouldn't have anything to worry about...but I'm thinking of the future here.

Have there been any reported cases of up-to-date Wiis with latest firmware blocking the system from recognizing the chip after being installed? I've already read that the latest updates are safe for currently modded Wiis; but maybe there's that possibility that the update could prevent unaltered systems having any modifications made to them. I don't even know if that's possible but would like this answered to ease my mind.

Also, on an unrelated note: why did Super Mario Galaxy only update my system to 3.0U and not 3.1U?

That message is just to scare n00bs away....so you lol. It's just to cover Nintendo's backs saying if you mess up ont he mod then it's not their fault (bricking your Wii).

u may have difficulties using the update discs for the wiikey but there are workarounds for that

My search only brought up threads relating to updating their already modded systems and I've come across plenty of threads with people's systems not being able to read their discs, and although most of the time it's caused due to cheap media or out of region discs -- there was still that possibility.
