hi,
ive read the tutoriuals and watched the videos yet im still confused on a few things...as far as i can tell...the bad flash recovery method is the only way i really want to try so heres my understanding.
i have installed iprep and updated it to the latest everytihng...i opened the ixtreme 1.4 firmware into it. i selected my VIA SATA 6421 PCI card and selected 'Enable MTKFLASH'
i then make my USB drive bootable etc using iprep and load from the USB pen and conitnue the tutorials from there.
is that correct? am i missing anytihng? in the video guides it says sometihng about a hex edited 6421 chipset...what does that mean and do i need to do anything about that?
thanks

also...can someone confirm this for me please:
once i have loaded into the bootable iprep screen. i put in the iDump code to dump my firmware....then what?
on the tutorials it says it should come up with XTREME? and you select it...then it sasy ''This should have dumped your originla frimware''....now turn off the 360 and wait however many seconds.
im VERY unsure about ding anytihng past typing iDUmp code thing...could someoen run me through whats required after i type in the idump sequence thing please?
thanks

dont worry about the hex editing thing that was from the past.
once you've made your bootable usb pen drive with the ixtreme 1.4 firmware, turn on your xbox 360 and boot into the dos screen from your usb.
once in the dos screen connect the sata cable from your sata card to your xbox360 dvd drive.
then type idump xxxx xxx (your serial number where x's are.
press enter
turn off xbox360 drive
on the next prompt where it asks you what to select , select the xtreme .
count to between ten and eight and turn on your 360 drive.
the screen should now start reading your firmware.
upon completion, turn off your 360 drive and uncouple sata lead.
restart pc and turn on 360
when in dos again, connect the sata lead to your drive
type iflash xxxx xxx
press enter
turn off 360 drive
select xtreme
wait between eight abd ten seconds and turn on your 360 drive.
it should then flash your firmware.
good luck.
sometime you have to vary the count with different drives.

if the 10 second trick didnt work it will not dump your firmware to the usb drive it will just sit on the same screen,
and the second question, yes once you have read your firmware you can restart and go back into windows, then go into the usb drive and you will find your firmware as a 256kb file probably called orig.bin

and do not lose that file it contains your specific drive key data that no one else can give you, you lose that you might as well kick your self. tape your usb drive to your xbox and leave it there. go buy another one if you need one.

I was able to dump my drive. however when i restarted and did the fSam xxxx xxx it just stayed at the
Port: c8a0, Master/Salve: aO screen.
Side note: when I dumped the drive i never saw firmtool come up. it is possible that i restarted everything to quickly. was i suppose to wait a while for firmtool to start up or is it a command i must type for it to show up

Just a random question your system is turned on right whenever your booting from your usb. It should be on the whole time untill you come to the part where your chooseing a drive.

To be honest id just erase your usb drive reload it with ixtreme and all that good stuff and try again. Im thinking maybe a file didnt take over or its having trouble reading a file off the usb. Start over fresh and make sure your typing the commands down right with ur serial number and everything. Because the problem isnt your sata card if your able to see the XTREME port. Another thing make sure your typing the same serial for both commands. I know it seems childish to say but little sh*t happens that can make the whole thing not work. Try that and get back to me shouldnt take to long. Ps. I dont know what tutorial you are useing but the one in my sig works well. Peace...

Hold on i just read your thing again power off before chooseing the port. Leave it on till you see Xtreme port, power off choose it then wait 10 seconds and power on. You said you picked your drive then powered off if im not mistaken. So once you see the Xtreme port power off choose it and then wait 10 seconds to power on.

I've seen this happen when people use those xsam, xhack whatever commands.
A simple mtkflash w /m /sata hacked.bin works perfectly.

its looks like to me you restarted to quick, i would be safe FIRST DONT DELETE YOUR USB DRIVE. if it did go through it has your DRIVE KEY ON IT. VERY IMPORTANT. download the firmware toolbox and open up the folder that has the first 5 of your xbox's serial number on your usb drive. keep opening the folders till you see a .bin file. open that and check the key. if it is valid it will have a bunch of random numbers, if not it will have something like FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF in the box where it says drive key. after you get to this point write another post. i hope you didnt format that drive....
