I'm going thorugh the post with instructions on how to update the Wiikey.

Something that is mentioned: turning the region override back on.

Erm: isn't a good thing to have this turned off for paranoid players of backup games?

Since: if you can't play a backup that is not from your region: then surely there is no chance of getting your Wii blocked?

Makes sense to me!

Or, am I missing something?

Thanks.

If you want to play other region games then turn it on. If not then leave it off.

Hmmm seems a bit weird to me why this is not made more clear: protect yourself by leaving the region protect on...?

Thanks for the reply.
I think I'll leave as is.

What Iīve read itīs like "if your Wii donīt read any backups, turn region override to on". But how could I turn it on if it canīt read any of my disc? =)

aahhhh... well that would make more sense to me.
but still: i would leave it on if ok.
but then if u have to have region over ride turned on: then u have to have it turned on.

what would be interesting to know in more detail: when does it *have* to be turned on?

if you *have* to have it turned on to play backups: then there's no point in having the functionality there: just have it be turned on by default all the time??

Sorry for my bad english first of all.

I think itīs a safety thing. You donīt have to have it set to "on" as long as you play games in your own region. As in my case with a PAL Wii, I always just play PAL games, never tried and never will try a NTSC game. So in my case if could be turned off. My SMG works perfect anyway.

If itīs turned on itīs a bigger chanse of getting your Wii bricked in case you play a game from another region and update your Wii.

Dunno if thatīs what you meant but..

Here is the deal with the Wiikey:

1) If everything is working fine, Wiikey owners do not need to do anything

2) After SMG, there was a need to update the Wiikey firmware to 1.9g

3) Sometimes after the update process, especially when people went to 1.9b, some or all backups could not run, then the solutions was found to tun REGION OVERRIDE on, and that solved the problem.

4) Now, how is it possible to run a Config disc if backups are not running? Using GCOS mode.

So:

A) if everything is working do not do anything else.
B) if you need to update the Wiikey firmware use 1.9g
C) if you want to run games from other regions or solve some compatibility issues with some of your backups, try turning REGION OVERRIDE On
D) If your Wii is having problems running Wii Backups, Config discs, or Update ones, then try to use the Wiikey resources in GCOS mode.
E) If all of the above fails, then there could ve a physical problem with the drive, the mod-chip, the soldering job, the burnt discs, etc...

Where's the party?!?

smg not working properly.
i tried to do an update yesterday: but it's giving me a failed message on the test.
not sure if i want to bother with smg!

Are you sure you have a Wiikey?

Did you use the original 1.9g file (that needs to be filechopped) or a padded version of the file? Do you remember wher you got that file?

Also, are you berning it on DVD-R at 4x or 2x?

Where's the party?!?

burning at 2 speed.
ok: i burnt on bulkpaq discs!!
so far: have tried 3 games - been ok.
also: the update program loads and runs the first test - this i would assume means all is ok with regards the disc?

let me know if you have any further suggestions.
