First off I have Extreem 5.2 and it boots all originals and backed up diskes. From what I understand plays back ups that are SS files ECT but won't play PAL region coded ones because my xbox 360 is region 1.. My advise to you is 1. Burn at a lower speed 1x to 2.5x. not auto max. Make sure Rom is highlighted on clon cd. Your are using the right equiptment and software. 2. check for updates on your pioneer DVD recorder. 3.Use only region codes of you country.4. If all else fails use dvd decripter to back up your games. This program also works for me. I hope I helped a little?
Surprising update on my situation and thanks lilg_06.
Had this other mod business inspect and flash my 360 with Ixtreme 1.4 fw and backups work like a dream. Apparently contrary to what I was told there was no sign of a chip had been installed, and to top off I was told by this mod guy there is no chip available as yet for the latest BenQ drives. The other mod guy is nothing but a scammer preying on unsuspecting customers. I have written a letter as advised by consumer protection and personally delivered it today stating that I want my money fully refunded plus costs of wasted dual layer discs, which I was throwing in the bin thinking I was backing them up wrong, when all along they were perfect working backups. To say I'm pissed off would be an understatement. I would like to thank all who contributed positively to my post, and will keep you updated on what happens from here.
So far I havent heard from the scammers and I will wait the 14 days I gave them to respond, which ends on 25 January. It then will go to the consumer protection tribunal and I'm hoping they will get charged with consumer fraud.
i don't get it though, why did his backups work? i ask because i'm having the same issue. i can't get my backups to work, but the guy i bought it from...his backups work fine.

What method are you using to rip and burn your games?
I rip them with Xbox Backup Creator v2.7, although I'm not sure what options I need to have checked or unchecked when I'm ripping. I burn the .dvd file with either imgburn, clonecd, or xbc at 2.4x. I change the booktype to DVD-ROM. I use Verbatim DVD+R DLs. I have a samsung drive in my 360. I don't know what FW I have and I don't know how to check it either. I have the Samsung Drive with Kreon .81 FW to rip and a Lite On SOHW 832s flashed with CJ5M FW from codeguys. I have made successful backups in the past, but not in a long time. Actually I think the last working one I made was Assassin's Creed. Something weird happened with that one. I put it in and it said to play I needed to update something on my Xbox. So I updated it(but I wasn't connected to Live, no cable in the xbox and no wireless setup) Ever since then it hasn't worked with new backups. Although all my old backups work still. Could it have done something to the xbox?
The updates dont affect the playability of backups, so thats definitely not the problem, have you tried to backup a different game than the one you trying atm?
yes, i've tried mass effect + fusion frenzy 2. Neither one works. Mass Effect gets to the loading screen then freezes. Fusion Frenzy just doesn't work. I also tried Eternal Sonata and that went to the loading screen and froze too. I just ordered a pioneer 112d, so i'm hoping that fizes the problems. I would try to burn at 4x or 6x, but my media only goes 2.4x.
