Hi all,

Been looking through the forum and decided to post to see if anyone can see anything wrong with my install

I had a friend do the install who does soldering for a living (do you think it is a neat job?) and I can't see anything visibly wrong with it.

I've used an electrical connection tester (don't have a multimeter to hand at the moment) and there is a valid connection between each pad\solder connection - so I can't see the problem??

Picture further down but read on first:

I have the DMS chipset

At the moment I can play original disks no problem but no backup disks. In ever case the Wii Menu always appears.

These are the backups I have tried so far (all burned at low speed):

A) Setup Disk 1.0 - TDK DVD+R = (GC homebrew logo appears in channel > click on it > Choose Start > Read Error appears)

B) Setup Disk 1.2 - Verbatim DVD+R Lightscribe = (GC homebrew logo appears in channel > click on it > Choose Start > Read Error appears)

C) Setup Disk 1.2 - TDK DVD+R written on different burner = (GC homebrew logo appears in channel > click on it > Choose Start > Read Error appears)

D) Super Mario Backup - TDK DVD+R = Wii Menu but nothing appears in chennel button

WiiKey (with hologram) bought from consolesource.com

Any ideas?

Is the wire in the center-hole touching that track? I can't tell for sure from the angle of the picture

Where's the party?!?

I think the solder is ok - here is another picture from a slightly different angle.

Also, the wires have translucent plastic sheilding on them.

I will get some DVD-Rs tomorrow - do they really make a difference?

if u got this - tells me chip and install are ok - (pls correct me if i am wrong guys)

what is your wii updated to? if its 3.0 / 3.1 you will need to run the hacked version of config disc 1.3 to turn region override on

see this thread for links http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/597460

i think your main problem is your media try maxell dvd-r or discs with ritek dye on them and use imgburn
check if there are any later firmware updates for your writer

Use IMGBurn and set your book-type to DVD-R when using DVD+R discs and it should work fine

Nice One Thinone!

I had to run the hacked config disk as I am at v3.1 - I just followed everything at the link you provided and it's now up and running fine! Sweeeeeeet!.

Also got some DVD-Rs today and re-burned everything to them. (Thanks for the tip Haruk).

Time for some fun!
