I am using datawrite 4x dvd-r's to burn my dvd's and i have been having problems with some of the discs freezing? I use dvd x copy platinum to rip and nero to burn! I can't understand why it only happens on some discs and not on others? Do the originals have to be fingerprint and scratch free? would this cause it to happen even if it doesn't freeze on the original? I just read about aspi drivers too, i'm on xp, could this be the problem? Oh, and i'm using a freecom 4x burner too, which my computer reads as an nec burner? could this cause a problem? Thanx for any help anyone can give me on this problem, it's driving me mad! I also used dvd shrink to rip, with same problems!

Scratches and fingerprints on the original can cause problems on copies. If it can't be read and ripped properly it can show up on the backup. Sometimes it caused by over compression of longer movies to fit the smaller blank media. Sometimes just poor media. You may have to try different brands of media to find one brand that your burner and player like better. A lot of variables. Some stand alone players don't like paper stick on labels. They will cause freeze up sometimes. It just takes time to find the right combo to work. I know this isn't much help but its how you play the game. Jerry

Also, I don't use XP (didn't like it), but I think there is a problem that it doesn't have the aspi drivers. So you have to download it. Should be a link on here somewhere. Check koola's guide site. I think he has a link. Jerry

well this is what i tried last night. i was having problems with my memorax discs in my pioneer dvd player so i tried them in my jvc player and they worked fine. so i then reburnt the movies using verbatam discs and they worked perfect in my pioneer player. so i guess i would say that its just certain brands of discs dont like certain brands of players.

When it comes to playing backups in stand alone players, the + - issue is important. Most older players (2-3 yrs old) only like -R media. Some of the newer ones will play both. There is a good section on both players, writers and media compatability at www.dvdrhelp.com Its a good place to check and see what your machines like best. jerry
