He he..nit wits. Anyway my friend I bought a 46" LCD Sony Wega TV. When I asked the associates on what the big difference is between LCD and Plasma the only thing he told me was "black is blacker in Plasma" and my reaction was "oookay??" I'm assuming Plasma has better contrast? Also you will need a room that is not well lit as plasma is better watched in poorly lighted rooms. Another issue with plasma is "screen burning" simply means that if an image stays on your Plasma screen for a lenghty amount of time it leaves a ghost like image when your watching something else. So if you were watching say the BBC, and you switch to a different program, you may still see the BBC logo burned on your TV's display even though your no longer watching the BBC. Now I have been told that newer plasma TV's no longer have this issue so there. I found that LCD was more recommended for video games and if you watch sports. Somthing to do with better refresh rates that plasma. Anyway I love my Sony LCD, have not had any issues with it and by general consensus it's recomended for use with video games.
Good luck :0

I am going to be quick here as I am going to bed. The simplest way I can put this is...

If on a movie to game ratio, games are stronger then go with LCD. If movies are more your thing you should probably go with a Plasma.

Just some tips on brands...

If you go for a Plasma, I would recommend Pioneer or Panasonic.

If you choose a LCD, stick with Sharp, Samsung or Sony.

Samsung make some nice panels that appeal aesthetically but after seeing the Pioneer 50" full HD (PDP-LX508A) in action. I have to say that is the best picture (for movies) I have seen so far.

Here's a link...

http://www.pioneer.com.au/products/home_...anel/index.html

It is from the Australian website as I live in Australia. Of course they make other size Plasma TV's too. Just click on the picture of the model about half way down the page and that will give you more detailed information.

Try here too...

@Ryu

It's weird that you think lcd is better for games and plasma is better for movies. That contradictory to everything I have ever heard. Plasmas hold blacks better. So games that contain dark rooms or scenes in general are better scene on a plasma. I can definately vouch for this with call of duty.

If you play video games go with a plasma.

OMG! Everyone is so quick to challenge other peoples ideas here.

grkblood, He already stated he has chosen plasma. I even helped him to choose a leading brand. Was your post really necessary? I have heard on many occasions the merits for choosing an LCD for gaming. I have also decided that with my own eyes. If you look at the thread in this category "Post Pictures Of Your Setup", you will see most have chosen LCD for their gaming display.

dude, thats one site. and can i please point out that you took that from the section "computer use", lol. we're not talking about PC games on a lcd computer monitor here. we're talking about a home setup on a tv. also, on that same site it stated what i previously said. that black levels are better on plasmas therefore making darker games more visual.

@Ryu,

I wasn't jumping on you. Just wanted to state that from my experience that has not been the case. I didn't want him possibly getting false/one sided information.

P.S. I plan on posting my setups within a few days. Ill show off my plasma. :)

everyone has their opinions, i have a samsung 32'' lcd and when playing games i couldnt ask for a better picture it is amazing, cant comment on a plasma as ive never had one, both tv's will give an amazing picture no matter what you choose to buy, i also have a toshiba 42'' rear projection tv that gives a excellent picture while playing games and movies to. At the end of the day you get what you pay for!

Ps3 60gb > 200gb > 320gb > 1.55 > 1.81 > 1.82 > 1.90 > 1.92 > 1.93 > 2.00 > 2.10 >2.20
If at 1st u dont succeed, cheat untill caught and then lie.

Back when i bought my TV about a year ago LCD was considered better for gaming. Plasmas can get screen burn but i dont think its as bad as it used to be. And also LCD screens last longer

Not to keep this going but how could I possibly have given one sided information? I clearly made a post with equal reference to both LCD and Plasma. When he said he chose Plasma, I then continued to offer help.

I agree with you that Plasma's have a deeper black as they don't have a backlight like LCD's do. In MY OPINION LCD's seem to have more vivid colors which can make games look better.

I think what needs to be understood here is that when someone offers advice towards something that doesn't mean everything else is bad. It also an opinion, which is all we can ever offer here. I think Plasma TV's have amazing picture quality. I am even considering buying one just so I have the best of both Worlds (LCD and Plasma).

In my opinion plasmas are way better. The most important is the fact that you don't see pixelised display on plasma if the resolution is not native. Of course you need real HD plasma for current consoles (1366x768 or 1920x1080) and they are more expensive that LCD of the same size and resolution.
BTW 'screen burning' is not a problem anymore.

I don't think you understand why i used that link. It's the same thing as both are computer generated.

LCD HDTVs are better for viewing computer or console games.

LCD screens were originally created to show computer graphics ? so they excel when you?re displaying a computer-generated image. That?s why retailers always show animations on their demo LCD TVs.

I've provided a different link this time which explains it better.

XxXed, If your getting a plasma go for pioneer or panasonic like ryu77 suggested.

If you actually do some thorough research you will find out that for LCDs are better for gaming over Plasmas. Now if you more into watching movies , yes go with a Plasma.
Like Ryu said also.

Games/PC - LCD
Movies - Plasmas
