If you are getting it mostly for playing the guitar then definitely go for GH3. Rock Band's guitar is far too easy in comparison to GH3 after a while it isn't challenging. But if you feel like just messing around with friends id go Rock Band.

i got GH3 and its amazing but according to the GH forums there is a lot of talk about rock band and how faulty the equipment it ie broken guitars after a few days and bass pedals on the drums

well everyone i know that owns rock band including myself have never had any problems with the game, and there are songs harder on rock band then on guitar hero 3, ever heard of Timmy and the lords of the underworld? remember from south park? its one of the hardest songs on rock band, its unbelievable.i would prefer rockband over GH3 any day.
