Can't connect PSP to PS3, forcing upgrade

I'm trying to connect my PSP to my PS3.
I'm connecting the 2 together ok, but the PSP tells me that I have to upgrade my software. Is this the same as upgrading my Firmware, which I do not wish to do.
Any Ideas?

to enable remote play, you need at least 3.10 on the psp and 1.60 on the ps3.

wirelessly, you need 3.50 on the psp and 1.80 on the ps3.

best is to update to 3.52 m33-4, as it doesn't require flash0 messing to enable remote play.

my PSP firmware is 3.71 M33, is this not suitable? Is the firmware you suggested a downgrade?
My PS3 firmware is 2.1.
Should it work with these settings.
