Im not sure about that, you will have to format the drive to FAT32 in order for the PS3 to read it.

I don't mean to hijack this thread but it relates to hard drives and didn't see this question asked anywhere...that I seen.
I have a question about external HD, will I be able to watch movies that are stored on my external HD? What I referring to is...I have some 1080 and 720 MKV. files, and I wanted to know can I watch them through the PS3?
Thanks for the replys fellas.

no.. at the moment the ps3 cant read mkv files right off a hard drive. you have to have windowns linux installed with vlc player or something to play the file directly. your other option is you convert your videos using ps3 video 9 or mkv2vob converter and play it using tvversity over the network.

another option instead of external is i've seen 2.5" to 3.5" hard drive caddies for the ps3. so you can use the hard drive internally. just buy the converter caddy. then you can put all your demos on there (might have to redownload them though)

Wouldnt a 3.5" harddrive be to big to fit inside the PS3.Or is it connected internaly but stays out side the PS3.
