I'm going to get a Samsung SH-D162C drive (I've heard that 360 games can be backed up with that)

I've also heard you need to flash the drive but I don't know where to get the firmware.

If someone can also post a easy to follow tutorial for backing up xbox 360 games with a Samsung SH-D162C drive can you post it (I've found alot of tutorials but they don't make it clear enough)

Brian, make sure your Samsung drive is flashed with Kreon, if you buy it off e-bay, then it should already be flashed. If you need the firmware, check xbins (google it if you need help to get there). Once you get it flashed, you rip the game with either Xbox Creator or Schtrom (what I use). Then you will you burn it to a DL disk with imgburn.

Can you supply a link for the firmware?

And also, I'm not to sure about how to use xbox backup creator. And with xbox backup creator can you save as an iso onto the hard drive (I'm trying to put cutom songs on gh2 for xbox 360. And know it can be done because i've been researching it for a few weeks)

If you buy your Samsung off e-bay, it should already be flashed with Kreon. Just google it man, you'll find it or search button the forum here. You need MIRC and flashFTP to get the firmware from xbins. I use Schtrom, it's easy. You put the orginal in the samsung, then it will extract the iso and the dvd files, it's really easy. Then you burn with imgburn.

As long as it actually has Kreon firmware then i would say yes. I am confused because the SH-D162C was the older internal IDE drive from Samsung for backing up 360 games.

I bought one of these drives from ebay with firmaware already flashed. I have just drive connected to my machine because another drive slot is not available (old pc, dont ask). Basically I have the reader but no dl writer attached to the pc. I acquired a version of xbox backup creator and am trying to back up my games but it will not let me. Am I missing something. Backup creator is recognising that kreon 1.00 is on drive already but wil not allow me to start burning disc.

here is message from first screen proving it recognises disc.

Xbox Backup Creator v2.4 Build:0225 By Redline99

Found ODD: TSSTcorp DVD-ROM SH-D162D SB00 at [D]
Additional Info: KREON V1.00
Nero v7.8.5.0

In the first XBOX 360 Backup creator screen the start and cancel buttons are greyed out and the message "this is not a true 1 to 1 copy of the image. See read me for more details. " is displayed. I have no read me file.

I also tried using SchtromXtractV32 and get told the drive cannot write discs?

Can anyone please please help this is very frustrating.

Cheers,

Al.

Should clarify. The plan is to backup images to my hard drive and the burn to disc at a later stage. Is this o.k. to do?

No, the drive you have is one of the Kreon drives. There are about 4 that i know about. Two IDE drives and two SATA drive. The older versions like mine, and the newer versions like yours. I replied to your other thread so give my method a try and see how it goes. If that does not work it may be something in your hardware setting that is stopping the drive from working right.
