Me being the twat I am by installing many updates regardless, decided when I got my psp on Christmas to update to official 3.80 straight away.

Now custom 3.80 is released, I've heard I can't switch because I'm on official 3.80

Why's this? And how can I get to custom firmware without using a pandora battery and magic memory stick?

not possible. you NEED pandora's battery and universal unbricker v3 memory stick to get to 3.71 m33-2; anything 3.51+ MUST use them. from there, you can upgrade to 3.80 m33.

you can't upgrade from official to custom. custom firmware isn't signed by sony.

psp slims MUST use them because the lowest firmware is 3.60.

original fat psp can run custom firmware from 1.50, after running a patch that will make it run unsigned code. all downgraders are for going to 1.50 so you can upgrade to custom firmware from there.

I'm using a psp fat.
So what are the chances of ruining my battery and memory stick if I do the ol' magic memory stick and pandora battery?
Aaaaaaaaaand is is absolutely imperitive that I have a spare battery?

without using another custom firmware psp, which is the easiest and safest, you either buy the datel tool battery or hardmod your battery. the tool battery is only available online.

using a second battery just for pandora is recommended, but not necessary. official sony batteries recommended; those cheapos shouldn't even be tried.

the memory stick can be formatted afterwards.

is that the red battery? I think I've come across that :/
I'd rather hardmod my battery - just for the simple fact taht I need all my moniessss for my gf birthday in 2 weeks, then valentine's >.<
I'm pretty sure I have an official sony battery - it's the same one which came to me with the value pack thing.
I see, hmm.
Well do you reckon, what with me being prone to everything going pear shaped, that I'd ruin my battery or is it simple enough with the right guide?
Cheers for all this btw mate :)

use THIS guide for everything, and it should go well.

hold up, if this goes wrong, it's only the battery which will screw up, right, nothing else?
So I can replace it easily?
