It does have a "sort of security",it basicaly stops children seeing harmfull content but as far as Online banking im not sure.Your PC,how did it die,it could be fixable.

The security for the PS3 is "Trend Micro".

Did you try defraging the harddrive and doing an error check on it through Windows.
Defraging helps to correct some disc errors.
If the harrdrive has failed you could get a 250gb one for about £40 $80.

Biggie76 sorry for the childish comments on your thread left by Okthen12 and myself.

As far as your PC goes just get a new Harddrive,if you dont want to get one online,Maplin and Mplex are very good places to buy them.

I just had a thought, why dont you do a full harddrive reformat and reinstall windows, that "might" help.

Well anyway, as for your question about the PS3's security, if you install Linux on it you could simply use that and you'd have all the protection if not more than on a PC.

For activities like you are talking about, it's more important that your connection is encrypted so the data transferred between you and your bank is not readable if it is intercepted. That is done with SSL. You should see a https: URL rather than a http one when using SSL.
