Strange symptoms after WiiKey install

Installed a genuine WiiKey. Used the long wire method. Did a very neat job. (This wasn't my first rodeo:^) Put the unit back together. It booted fine. Installed an original and it worked fine. Installed a backup and it would not read the disk. Disassembled unit. All solder points check out. No bridges. The only weird thing to note is when checking for continuity, the two larger pads seem to experience occasional, momentary continuity. Has anyone ever experienced this? Hold the black multimeter lead on the chip at one of the corresponding points. Hold the red lead on the appropriate lead on the Wii board and you have continuity. Move the red lead to the other larger pad. It beeps momentarily and then has no continuity. Take the lead away and place it back on the same pad and it gives no response. I think this is WEIRD! I'm thinking the chip is bad. I hope the company I bought it from will replace it. Any suggestions?

Not on a Wii but I've seen irregular readings like that on a continuity check where if you press harder the reading is solid, but a light touch gives different readings. In some cases it's been a cracked/loose solder joint but other times not. Could be solder resin or flux interfering perhaps? As you said though my guess is you got a bad chip. (I'm going through the same thing right now with a flakey wiinja.)
