I have a version 4 PS2.
Currently I am using the memory card exploit to play backups. I know I can do this for slimline too.
I am wondering how long until lasers will burn out... on average.
Also, I am wondering when it DOES burn out, I will have to buy a SLIMLINE PS2.
I was wondering if the slimline PS2s RIGHT NOW have better lasers or worse lasers than fat PS2s. I cannot buy online so that is why I need to buy from retailers like Future Shop or Best Buy (Canada). Please help with my questions. Thanks in advance.
Also I think I am using quality DVD-R. It is a Philips 16x DVD-R that has media code CMC in it. o.O Philips is not on the sticky so I thought I would tell you guys.
fats have better lasers than the slims. my v7 is on the original laser, and i'm the original owner. never opened. laser has been thrashed with many hours of gameplay, before the hdd addition. monthly cleaning of the system will prolong the life of the system.
you can't buy replacement parts in store. you have to order them online.
also, you cannot do the memory card exploit on the slim like the fats. the exploit was fixed in the slims. so you would have to use ARMAX media player to load the elf files.

if you want quality media, go verbatim.
I know I have to order online... and how long do you think my PS2 will last considering I play 2 hours a day?
it'll last with monthly cleanings. when san andreas first came out, i had many hours nonstop on the system; 3-4 hours a day, more on weekends. and now, the laser still runs strong; no dre's and still can play dvd/cd with no problems.
have a cleaning cd, a can of compressed air, and some qtips when cleaning. use the cleaning cd to clean the laser. then use the qtips to clean the fan in the back; clean each fanblade, front and back. then use the compressed air to clean the front of the system, but make sure you remove your network adapter/expansion bay slot before using the compressed air.
THIS is what monthly cleaning, and some subtle modding, left me. still looks brand new, and runs strong.

Are you sure ARMAX and USB exploit to memory card is patched for slimline? ._.
