This is for my mother-in-law. They are able to play downloaded demos but no games or videos. Seems that something must have happened today. This morning all was well but now the system is not reading discs it seems. Any help is appreciated. They have done the on/off reset already.

They've turned it off for 24 hours then turned it back on? I read that that helps. If that's what u were talking about when u said "on/off reset" then the drive could be messed up. Contact Sony.

this may not pertain to you but my xbox 360's laser went on the fritz from playing backed up media (burnt movies and games). if your parents are watching burnt movies on their ps3, it may have strained their laser like it did mine on my 360. i had to get my whole dvd drive replaced. i recommend using verbatim dvds. every since i switched to them all has been good. but if they are not using burnt movies then i dont know what the problem is. just send it in to sony or take it back to the store you bought it from. hope this helps.
