do i have to format my memory stick to have a custom firmware.

what does formatting the memory card mean?

How do i install the new custom firmware (3.80 M33) on my new/lite psp, which has the official sony firmware (3.80)

can some one help me step by step?

one last question, is there always a different way to install a new custom firmware?

Yes you have to format your memory stick for custom firmware is you still want to keep your gamesaver and music and stuff copy them onto your computer

formatting the memory card makes all the folders neccicary for the PSP and also deletes all your files

To install 3.80 M33 on your PSP you need to make a pandora's battery or buy one off e-bay

there is a good quide on youtube on how to do all this stuff but it is in differant parts here is the first one http://youtube.com/watch?v=5D5SgCdJNCI

also this guide tells you how to upgrade to 3.71 only so you need to upgrade to 3.80 from 3.71 there are many gudies on how to do this so just search it up.

untill now there has usually been differant ways to upgrade firmware but the current way to upgrade to 3.80m33 is very easy and i think it will stay this way

when i format the memory stick, can i use the memory stick for anything else such as video camera, camera mp3 palyer, etc. Will I still be able to put on music, videos, and pictures on the psp. Can I still put the memory stick in the computer (with the adapter). Will the psp menu look the same with the custom firmware?

no it changes to an xbox 360 kind of menu lol............. of course it will look the same it will do exactly the same stuff as before plus alot more
