I ripped a DVD9 movie using DVDShrink, then used CloneDVD to burn it. The picture will play but there is no audio. And my standalone player will not recognize the burned disc.

Any suggestions on where the problem may lie?

First of all, download a program called AnyDVD. This little program will decrypt your DVD and let CloneDVD read from the DVD in your drive.

Make sure you are using good quality media like Ritek G03, G04.

These are just common problems which you may be encountering. For a better solution, please give more information about your hardware, media and DVD.

Cheers

i'm using a plextor 708A writer. i ripped with DVDShrink and tried burning with CopyToDVD and CloneDVD (separately), both producing a dvd not having audio. I also tried using DVDDecryptor and using CloneDVD to shrink and burn, but Clone reported an error when I tried to upload the DVDDecrypted files.

I am using Memorex +R media (because on www.dvdrhelp.com it is the only media that users reported worked with my writer and my standalone player).

Ok, first of all you can use CloneDVD with AnyDVD. When you get to the Output screen in CloneDVD, select ISO/UDF Image. This will output your compressed DVD into an ISO which can be tested before burning.

When you get a ISO image, Neros ImageDrive can load the ISO into avirtual drive. PowerDVD, WinDVD can now play the ISO as if it was in the DVD drive.

This is a great way of teating your setup and hardware. Give this a go first and see if the audio problem goes away!

See ya :D

redvoid,

I noticed it's been a while since you posted so I'm not sure if my 2 cents is needed but -
Since I'm here and started typing anyway -

On occasion I have seen people using Shrink accidentally delete the wrong audio stream when trying to get their DVD-9 down to a DVD-5 size for burning.

I try to keep an ACS 2-ch AND an ACS 6-ch to insure my audio doesn't slip between my fingers -

Just a note -

Happy Holidays,

ok, i know its been a while, but i think i figured out the problem to my audio troubles. I didn't realize that you HAD to create a folder specifically called VIDEO_TS and and blank AUDIO_TS folder. I did this and it worked just fine in my computer, but not in my standalone player.

I think the problem is that I used Roxio Easy CD Creator to burn and I burnt it as a Data DVD. Is anyone familiar with the Roxio software and know the correct settings to use? Originally, I was just testing the CloneDVD software out and didn't have the full version. I am willing to buy it, but since I have the Roxio software, I figured I would give it a shot. Anyone used Roxio successfully before?

redvoid,

Roxio comes with sooo many computers and seems to screw up so many other programs that many of us here on the forum have deleted it.

There are a few who use it and so I will give you the instructions that they have posted -

Burning with Roxio

Starting from when you have your VIDEO_TS folder ready from DVD Shrink, open Roxio's Creator Classic. Pick a new DATA project. Type the movie title where the disc name is (040103_0048). You want two folders inside the main disc: VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS. Nothing is in the audio folder; I've heard it's just for compatibility. The video folder should contain the shrunken DVD files and all from DVD Shrink. You can check Project Properties if you like, but it always says UDF file system for me. You can also click Validate Project under the File menu, but again, it always accepts it. The only hairy thing you have to watch out for is misspelling audio_ and VIDEO_TS. Once it's all loaded up, burn it. It's that simple. I'm telling you, it has always worked for me, no errors except when I used some cruddy cheap media. Specs: Roxio Creator Classic Version 6.1.1.7 software; NEC DVD-RW ND-1300A DVD writer hardware; 1.7Ghz Celeron + 128mb DDR RAM

Burning DVDs with Roxio 6(Darkfoss method):

I've done it with Easy cd/dvd Creator 6. Takes a bit longer than Nero though.

1.Rip the dvd to your harddrive with shrink/dvd decrytor or whatever's your fav.

2.Open up Creator Classis and select new project data disk.

3. Drag the VIDEO_TS folder to the center window. No need for the Audio folder.Name your disk ie Gladiator or whatever movie your backing up.

4.Click on file at the top left and select create disk image. After your image is done and saved close out Creator Classic.

5.Open up DVD Builder and from file select burn disk from image. Find the iso you just created and burn.

The main reason you can't just select the VIDEO_TS and/or AUDIO_TS folder(s) directly in DVD Builder is most likely you'll get an AC3 error and get offered the option to burn the DVD without sound.

As for me, I use Nero 6.0 and CloneDVD and avoid problems from the start -

Again, if you encounter problems my suggestion is, delete Roxio and go with Nero -

scuba p,

thanks for the info. i actually was beginning to wonder if roxio was crashing my computer. ...i actually tried burning a dvd with roxio using the data dvd method and it didn't work on my standalone. i think i'll invest in some other software and delete roxio completely.

thanks....
