This is for those that are experienced in modding D2C boards (You know who you are).

I want to do a ARGON Alternate install on the back of the Wii drive board (seems easier then soldering to the ic legs). I have searched for guides on Wii disassembly but haven't found 1 that covers taking the drive board off the DVD drive itself.

I just have 2 questions which are shown on the below image.

The wires I have pointed to are just soldered to the board correct? All I should have to do is unsolder them?

Plus how the heck do you disconnect the ribbon cable I have pointed to in the image below?

If memory serves me right it goes exactly like this-

Used a pic of a recent install I did.

Hm, sorry for the quality lol.

So you can just pull that ribbon cable out?

I know the other ribbon cables has the clips on each side that you have to pull forward then pull the ribbon cable from it. But the 1 I have above doesn't seem to have any clips or anything to press to release the ribbon cable.

I just don't want to break any part of it trying to disconnect it.

Anyway I will probably send it to you to MOD anyway.

I replaced the pic, hopefully it explains more.

The smaller white ribbon you just pull out, yes.

Just wanted to make sure I didn't break the other ribbon cable.

Now on the wires you say to unravel. They can be unsoldered can't they? That way I have the board completely off the DVD drive itself when doing the wire install.

It looks like they are just soldered to the points on the board. I just want to unsolder them so I don't break the wires off and then have to re-strip the wire shorting them in length.

Well sure you can unsolder them but I would not recommend it. You can just flip the board over and work from there.

Do you have to do any preparation on the small radial circles that the alternative points are located.

If you have to do some preparation what steps should I take.

I believe that the small circles are covered with lacquer so you have to scrape it off with a razor of some sort (like an x-acto knife blade) and then just solder the wire there. Then again I've never done it I just solder straight to the IC legs. It's just what I heard.
