My dvd drive has stoped working ( Hitachi-LG ver 0078FK). It will no longer spin a disk of any kind. I removed the drive from the 360 and looked on ebay for a replacement drive (found many for $60-$70 us with shipping). Each one i found said i would need a a key to flash the drive. Since i know almost nothing about computers, i started to look up the info i needed. It seems all the info i found here is for modded 360's. Mine is not modded and i play on-line all the time, and i would like to just replase the broken drive with a new one. Do i need a key and do i need to flash the drive? If so, i would rather buy a new 360, cuz i would end up screwin somtething up. Unless it's a real simple process (ie no soddering and not adding or buying extra parts and pieces). Any help would be greatly appreciated.
ps. Sorry if i posted this in the wrong place, but as i stated, i was only finding steps for mods.

Thanx's
Unfortunately, if it won't spin up a disc, you won't be able to retrive your orig.bin file that contains your key in order to flash that key to a new drive. Your only hope now is to de-solder the chip and read it in an external programmer. Without your key, any other DVD drive won't work in your 360. Sorry.

Actually no you don't need the key and no need to flash. Simple thing to do is buy another hitachi dvd drive. Remove the whole logic board from the original failed drive and put it in the new. Will work fine cause the problem with your drive is mechanical(drive not spinning). So switching the logic board to the new drive will solve the mechanical problems.
I've got the same drive and had the same problem.
Got the laser replaced and haven't had a problem since.
I paid a pro to do it, the lasers are really cheap.
