60gb discontinued, which is best 20gb 40, 60 or 80

I currently have the 60gb and was gonna take it back to bb because i figured they would have to kick with 80gb (i assumed it was better) and now hear the 80 gb will be discontinued and is infact inferior to the 60 gb what do you guys recommend?

From all the ruckus I've heard and read it seems to me that the 60gb model came with the original Emotion Engine arcitechture so that basically means that there is a genuine PS2 core in there. Sony stated that the new 80gb models would now have to "software emulate" the PS2 games instead. I think this also affects the 40gb, I'm not too sure though.
That basically means that in order to save on development costs they ditched the PS2's hardware core so that you or I can benefit from a price drop. The PS2 itself had many different motherboard modifications to save on development so this is no surprise that they decided to start with that.
Of course, I'm going by heresay so please feel free to point any errors. Other than that, there is no major difference that I have come across with. I personally have the 60gb version and it seems like it might become a sought after version so I'd probably hold onto yours if I were you. Remember, you can always upgrade the HDD capacity later!

The Japanese and American 60gb PS3s are the best,they are the only 60gb models with the PS2 Emotion Engine,the Euro 60gb model dosnt have the Emotion Engine.
THe 20gb and 60gb models have been discontinued and there is talk of the 80gb model being discontinued.
The 40gb model dosnt play PS2 games.

As they've pointed out^, 60gb for sure. Best features of any ps3, and you can always upgrade the hard drive.

well i would say 40gb if you have a ps2. ill tell you my reasons
it is cheap and has better wifi my brother and me we both have cod4 and guitar hero3 we both play online but his 60gb console keeps on disconnecting but mine 40gb dosnt disconnect.
the third reason is the noise ps 40 gb runs cooly and noiselessly but 60 gb heats and it makes too much of noise. you would be dissapointed while watching movies.

well 60 gb dosnt disconnect regularly it disconnects more than 40 gb. 60 gb and 80 gb are simmmilar. there are no difference in graphics.

alot of good points are here
well i got the 60gig when it 1st came out in the uk and im happy i did if im online though wireless or ethernet it dosen't disconect while playing games only when i 1st boot up sometimes it happens lol
one thing people forgot to mention is the 40gig and the others as in the 20gig and 80gig has smaller processors than the 60gig so they dont run as fast you dont really notic it but its true and about the grathics come on guys its an HD console you not really gonna see that much diffrence are ya
o-yeah this part about the 60gig making alot of noise when watching blu-ray movies ect im not sure when they said that mine dosen't make any yeah it does it up a bit but only where the blu-ray drive is which isn't anything to worry about because the sie of the fan in the 60gig ps3 as far as ps2 games as people as said the 60gig has more compatibiliity (spelt wrong i think lol) with ps2 games but the 40gig cant play them at all so really all round the 60gig is better one out of them all

I have the 60gb version too and had made some research about the PS3 versions around the net.
Dunno much my self,but from what most people say, is the only PS3 that has everything and as pomp3y said is the most powerful.
I get Disconnected from PSN too(and i had the impression that it was just me) especially when running Folding@home, but i believe that sooner or later Sony will fix that.

man... and to think i was getting mad when i found out that i didnt have to pay $700 for my ps3. i got the 60 gig and im glad i did, but if i had to get a different one i would go for the 20 gig (if i could find one). it has all of the abilities as the 60 gig only less storage area and no wireless. i wouldnt miss the wireless... im not too lazy to plug that stuff in. and i probably wont ever use all 60 gigs of my hard drive. and before anyone asks, no i dont want to trade my 60 for your 20.

Yes, the 60gig is the best console of them all.But only if you get one that doesnt overheat and break on you. I purchased my 60g in Feb 07' and it stopped playing blueray games and movies shortly after Assasins Creed came out and all the issues with that. Well mine eventually started doing this on everything I put in except PS2 games and normal DVD movies. THis hurt my heart, eventhough I do have a Fliptop Ps2 and a protection plan on my console from Gamestop. I had to exchange it for the 40gig but also got a $200 credit. THe 60 gig is convenient and takes up less space because you can play both ps2' 3 games on it. But for the long haul, It may be better to just get the cheaper 40gig. if you dont have a PS2, just buy one. they are pretty cheap now a days. Esspecially if you live in areas where pawn shops exist. You can get one for less than $100 and games are dirt cheap. BUt who would want to play a ps2 game considering all the good PS3 games out now? ONly a selected few ps2 games are worth playing. But hey, even I go back and play pS2 games everynow and then. Resident evil 4 is still great,GOW2,Final fantacy......... Its all about your personal preference really.
