Hi all

First of all i want to say what a great forum! been reading some posts and people on here know there stuff!!

I have just bought a starview 2 the box, then i give it to a mate who knew someone and it got flashed for me and to be honest its spot on.

However my parents now want one so i am going to buy them one and try to flash it myself. First thing i have noticed is the cable that goes into the back of my box does not fit into my laptop anywhere so i will have to connect it to my parents computer, thats not really a problem thought.

When i do get it connected what software do i need to flash it? i got none with the box so i am starting from scratch really.

Is there a page that will give me the software i need and an idiots guide on how to flash these things?

For "The Box" only:

You will need a null modem cable DB9F to DB9F.

Null modem info here

If your pc does not have a serial port you will need a USB to serial port adapter to use in conjunction with the null modem cable.

These two cable links are only for reference as they can be purchased alot cheaper on fleabay.

All firmware/loader can be found in the link at the end of my post marked Eamos FTA Library.

You will need the GTromloader V4, (Starview Software Uploader), found in the Starview software folder of the link.

You will need version 4.50 for Ireland or version 4.51 for the UK firmware found in "The Box" firmware folder. There are later versions but I find these quite stable.

And please download the Starview PDF guide,(similar instructions as to "The Box" guide), this will give you step by step instructions on how to do everything.This can be found in the Starview Documentation folder in the link.

Thanks mate appreicate it, one more thing, is it possible to go back to an older firmware version once you have a newer one on? reason i ask this is you say version 4.51 is better, and on my box i may have the later version, so could i go back to 4.51 or not?
