For some reason, Ubisoft made the terrible decision to restrict Rayman Raving Rabbids 2 save games so players could not back up their saves to an SD card.

For some strange reason, the PAL version of the game doesn't feature this inane restriction. I was able to download a save game for the PAL version from WiiSave.

I found the four-character game code for RRR2 US by looking on the disc itself. The code is RY2E.

I loaded the save I downloaded for RRR2 PAL in a hex editor, found the RY2P string, changed it to RY2E, created a new folder named RY2E under \private\wii\title on my SD card, and copied the modified RRR2 PAL save to the RY2E folder. I even went so far as to deleting my current RRR2 US save (for the sake of science).

I popped my SD card into the Wii, pulled up Data Management, and browsed the save games on the SD card. The RY2E save file on the card had a question mark for an icon and three question marks for the game name. I went ahead and tried to copy it anyway, but the Wii returned the error "The data was not copied."

GRR. All I want to do is circumvent bad game design so I can back up my save games. I'm not trying to sell them on eBay; I just want to make sure that hours of unlocking games won't get flushed down the toilet if my Wii system memory gets corrupted.

Can anyone more familiar with the structure of data.bin (Wii save game files) download the RRR2 PAL save linked above and see if they can find a way to create a RRR2 US save game? I've gone about as far as my meager skills will take me.

as far as i know, you cannot change us/jpn/pal savegames. you must use corresponding saves to the corresponding region. if RRR2US doesn't allow copying, then you can't do anything about it. best thing you can do is complain to ubisoft about it.

ps2: v7 scph-39001 - independence exploit - hdloader 0.8c - maxtor 300gb hdd
(+[__]%) psp slim ta-085v1: 6.60 PRO B10
wii (powered by bootmii/priiloader): 4.1u - d2x v10beta53-alt (base 56) - configurable usb loader v70r51/devolution r188 - wd scorpio black 7200rpm 320gig w/ ams venus ds2 enclosure

got a whole lot more to list . . .

Someone was able to create an unlocked save for Elebits; I don't see why someone else couldn't create an unlocked save for RRR2.

The issue isn't whether or not it's possible. The issue is: How does one create an unlocked save game for a game that normally generates only locked save games? It may take special hardware, but it's still possible.
