Quite odd. But your problem doesnt sound like a hardware issue so much as a software issue. I'd imagine that the next time a new firmware came out and the firmware was effectively rebooted that would fix the problem.

I had to change mine twice too. The first two came with jet engines installed... lol! No seriously, my first two had a ridiculously loud cooling fan. My third one has had no problems at all... They say third time is a charm. I hope that it is the same for you grkblood! :-D

no, its definately a hardware issue as these guys have worked in the past before the PS3 broke. I think sony just puts crappy bluray drives into the PS3s and they eventually crap out on u.

You're either seriously abusing your console or you're completely full of crap. 2 consoles in 2 months...isn't the first one still under manufacturers warranty? Besides, if I owned something that broke not once but twice in an unreasonable amount of time through no fault of my own, I wouldn't be looking to get it a third time. You must not be that tired of it after all.

It is called teething problems. You haven't heard of this happening before? It is possible that there are some not as well built PS3's out there. It can happen with any new product coming off a production line.

How do you explain my PS3/747 passenger plane combo? Seriously the cooling fan was very loud. Loud enough to ruin watching a movie. It happened not once but twice... And they were brand new, out of the box PS3's!

Another point is that we've all heard of the PS2's laser problems. I have had mine for about 6 years now and not even a sign of any problem.

@B2D

yea, let me tell you buddy...I like coming on AD to lie about having to return my PS3. how stupid does that sound? anyways, after visiting two walmarts yesterday i got my THIRD PS3, the first one was out so they couldnt exchange it for me. Its gonna be a real pain if this happens again if they discontinue the 80GB b/c they told me since it came with motorstorm they couldnt give me a refund for a lesser model. Something about the game being opened so it had to be a full exchange.

I think pretty soon Ill have enough return reciepts to make a scrap book.

@Ryu77
you completely missed my point. Of course I'm aware of products making it through quality control that break down in the consumers possession. This was about grkblood's having returned 2 broken PS3s in 2 month's and going back to get a 3rd replacement even though he stated he was tired of doing so. I'm sure you've heard of people not taking care of sensitive electronic equipment too haven't you? Maybe he has a problem with overheating and not enough ventilation in the spot where he keeps it. Maybe he doesn't allow the disc to be pulled into the drive and forces it in. It might even be that the walmart where he picks it up from has some really f-ed up stock people that kick the boxes around before bringing them up to the cash register. Who knows. He, like you, can always get a refund and go to another store...that is if you still want to shell out your cash on a product that you've had so much bad luck with.

@grkblood
it might sound stupid to you but plenty of posts here at AD have to do with fanboys knocking a product because they favor the competition. You said you think sony puts crappy blu-ray drives in the PS3s but it hasn't stopped you from going and getting another one. Now if you're 3rd one breaks do you think it still has something to do with the hardware? You never went into detail about what the problem with the first 2 was but if the 3rd breaks the same way do you still think the console's at fault and if so I suppose we'll see another post about this next month when you decide to get a 4th one.

B2D327, Just to let you know... There is NOTHING that would make me go for the competition. I love the PS3, as a matter of fact I have considered Sony the number one console ever since the release of the original PSX console. I got it the first week of it's release.

I guess, when you said he was full of crap... I remembered my feelings of frustration and I am sure grkblood feels the same. I am sure he loves everything about the PS3 but is just feeling consumer frustration.

I completely agree with you about the abuse thing. Many people do not really respect what they have. I personally take great care with all my gaming/video equipment... But I also feel that a high end product should be built to handle a bit of abuse. At the end of the day, if it is still under warranty and you haven't dropped it, thrown it, dunked it under water etc. then it is still covered under warranty! I hope you're not doubting my cooling fan problem. I recorded a video of it, if you're at all interested. All three PS3's were placed in the same ventilated position on my entertainment unit so it wasn't a lack of ventilation. Anyway, it's all good now! Hopefully I can look forward to many years of entertainment as my other Sony units have given me.

PS: I still have the original PSX and it's still working perfectly! :-D

Dude, just call up sony and tell them what's up. That's what I did when my PS3 stopped reading discs. Two days later I had a box with Sony's address on it and instructions on how to ship it. Whammy! New PS3. Sony's pretty cool about their hardware breaking.

So many things can go wrong with a next gen system. My PS3 has just bitten the dust too. Won't read any discs. Like it doesn't even know they're there. Only the first time but I have to lose all my game saves now. Totally crap.

Rezler, you can back-up your game saves to any external media (USB drive etc.), the PS3 has an menu option to do this. :-D

I thought I was pretty clear with what happened. It stopped reading all media both times while loading settings mid game. I didn't mention when it occured but now I just did. I take great care of my consoles and the area it is in is open. My setup was posted on the pictures of your setup thread. You can go there and see for yourself. By the way, to the guy that posted asking why I dont just call sony. I actually have both times and they have it in their records. The reason I don't ship it off is because they send you a refurbished PS3 and it takes longer. It just easier for me to return it. If it happens again I will ship it off. Plus, I didnt feel like waiting this time because hopefully on monday my dual shock 3 will be in and I am really want to try out the rumble pack on COD4.

well, folks i have had the same problem. exactly 1 month after i bought the ps3 the blue ray reader would not read a disk or the system wasn't recognizing a disk was even present. maltreatment was definitely not the case. i love that thing its never been bumped or moved for that matter. sony was very easy to deal with but it was very inconvenient to have it missing for a month. they just fixed my system and sent it back to "same serial #". i wasn't aware that you could just take it back to walmart. i've heard there is something wrong with the readers and i've heard the game "assasins creed" screws you system up anyone else hear that?

My Ps3 was made Nov 07. I got it for Christmas and like 2 weeks ago will not read disks. I think it is firmware doing not hardware. The box is on its way now. And you know when they will just give you a $500 pS3 for nothing they know somethings wrong with it.
