Sorry for the newbie questions everyone, but they say, "If you dont ask you dont know"
I had a friend install the wiikey for me, who knew what he was doing. However he told me, "as long as the games (back-ups) work dont bother updating the system. Is this true?
Also he told me not to update the wiikey firmware (i think its 1.9), because something might happen.
I've made up my mind and found it a lot easier to only play ntsc games on my wii (ntsc-u), because you take a bigger risk when playing PAL games and its a lot of work to make it work. Can anyone agree with me on this one??
Your friend wasnt saying that you cant update the wii, just that theres no reason to so long as games work. As I said in your other thread, so long as the game the update is running from is the same region as the console theres no danger. If you're updating the wii directly from the internet then it will automatically download the right update so still no danger of bricking.
And as for updating the modchip, I'm not sure what he ment but there are 2 versions of the 1.9 firmware: 1.9b and 1.9g. The only difference between them is that g can play super mario galaxy and b cant. There will (hopefully) be another new formware within the next couple days (1.9s or perhaps maybe 2.0) that will support SSBB.
