Just wondering how many rewrites were possible on a typical DVD-RW disc?

I want to use it to burn dvd projects which I will check in a set-top dvd player before burning the project onto a regular DVD-R thus eliminating coasters if the project has errors...

Yeah thats what I've been doing with datasafe rewritables , I got 5 for about £5 from bigpockets.co.uk and so far they are still going strong . I think , like cdrw , they are good for loads , thousands even . You are probably more likely to damage them before they wear out and they are so cheap it doesnt matter anyway

My understanding is that most stand alone players are not on speaking with DVD RW's, you can rewrite them as pipster mentioned a ton-O'-times and they are great to check your work on your PC before burning your DVD-R's.

some thoughts on limiting your coaster buildup

Ripping DVD's seems to be a little mixing and matching, one common place many seem to get caught in - they scrimp on media. Always go with the good stuff -

Some cooking recipes I will share with you are -

1. DVD Shrink - It's free, will rip your movies in generally 30 to 40 minutes. It allows you to compress your larger DVD-9's to the necessary 4.36GB keep in or remove menus and trailers (re-author) and provides you with a nice neat VIDEO_TS folder for you to have Nero or CloneDVD burn for you.

A second avenue is 321 Studio?s DVD Xcopy or Xcopy xPress, their prices have come away down since I got mine and you can get excellent results. It does the ripping compressing and burning with just 1, yep, that?s right 1 mouse click -

Another route for you to try, just rip with DeCrypter or AnyDVD and then use CloneDVD ? it will allow you to burn a DVD-5 and to split a DVD-9 onto 2 DVD blanks.

Anyone of the above recipes should have you baking up a batch of great backups in no time -
