Ok what i don't understand is why i ahve to have these specific dvd drives to read wii games. What about these drives is so special. Why do these drives have something that other dvd drives do not. Another point the only place i found it sells it for $100 and it is not even a burner just a reader. I cant see myself paying 100 dollars for something that is out of date when i can buy a dvd-dl burner for $50 and a good one at that. These can not be the only drives out there that read wii games. Has anyone tried any other ones. I bought a cyclowiz v2 and its installed. Just dont have a way of backing up my original games. I want to b ut dont want t o pay 100 dollars.

Basically most drives are unable to read the disks because they have standard code in the firmware which stops them from doing so. The drives that will read them doesn't have this code and that's it. Of course ppl have tried other ones but I as well as many others bow to the wisdom of the experts...

Don't take this the wrong way but really do you think that you are the first person to think there must be other options? In short, more qualified and knowledgeable ppl have looked at this issue and many others and whilst it always seems that "surely blah blah must be possible" it's the pipedream of those that want it without actually knowing anything about how it actually works ;)

Try as many other drives as you like m8 but you ain't gonna find summat that thousands of supergeeks haven't. :)

ok well why dont the people that have these LG drives rip the firmware and then post it somewhere and then the rest of us can patch our dvd drives with the LG firmware. I have plenty of extra dvd-rom drives laying around collecting dust. In theory this could work but i guess no one has tried.

Oh yeah - that's the thing about geeks, you can never rely on them to try obvious solutions. :D
