I have a problem, i got xbl yesterday (got a new box) but my computer when screwed so i ad to Format my drive again. The problem is tho that when i try to connect to xbl the ip adress fails. i know how to fix it but i cant. There is supposed to be a button that says 'Allow other device's on this network to access the internet' but that option is not there. there was another computer on the network but that screwed too, i think thats the problem. can any 1 help me?

So that i understand. When you go into the properties of your connection there is nothing there about "network sharing"?
Do you show more then one network, like a regular and a LAN?
More info on your connection would also help. Is it direct to a modem or through a router?
If a router did you open up the XBL ports?
Did you make sure you are not being blocked by an anti-virus or windows firewall program?

more information you provide the better the answers will be.
And here is some more info you can read through.

instead of plugging everything into the computer. Head to best buy and pick yourself up a wireless, or wired router and plug everything into it. The linksys befsr41 is a very fast cheap switch, with a minor firewall to that may help you avoid spam attacks. Plug all your ethernets into a switch and stop messing around with a soft switch is my best advice for your situation.

The Linksys WRT54GS is a good and fair priced wireless router that is Xbox Live compatible.

OK, so that sounds like a DSL connection that is running USB from the modem to the PC.

Have you, before the format, ever had any other consoles or devices that you hooked to the PC with an ethernet cord that could access the internet?

I know quite a few people have had problems with modems that hook up via USB rather then with an ethernet cable. See if these help:
