PS2 exploit, hd/usb flash abseloutly needed?

I'm really confused about all you can or cannot do with a mc exploit, so I wanted to try, but since my external hd cannot boot from my ps2 (Tried it with different tools, never managed to do it) and i don't have a usb stick, is it possible?

Here's is what I have in terms of software(Original disc, not copied)/hardware:
PS2 Slim 79001;
2x 8mb Sony PS2 Memory Card;
Swap magic coder v3.8;
Gameshark v4 for PS1;

I downloaded the followings, based on tutorials and websites:

Cog Swap Elf;
ExecFTP;
HD Loader DVD v07c;
Independence Compiler;
CD Loader Elf;
Launch Elf;
Titleman frontend;
USB Advance 1;
Max Media Creator v1.32;
USBExtreme wininst;
USB Insane;

Probably it's just a big mess of random files but everytime I tried something a file was missing but I kept the others and etc etc...

Oh, and is it just possible to copy the mc eploit files on a cd/dvd and boot it with swap magic to copy it on the memory card somehow?
