Ok, I have a Wiikey 1.9g and latest update 3.1U. I put in a backup (DVD5 version) of SSBX and installed the update. Got the duplicate channels but the game still worked. I played for half an hour with no problem and was excited as hell. I decided to go to my friend's house so my friends and I could all play. I get there and not only does SSBX does not work, but all my backups don't work. Real games work fine. So what I think I did wrong was travel with the game in the drive, but could that really mess up my chip? (it was literally a two minute car ride) Anyone have information on what I did wrong or even better with how to fix my Wii so it can read backups again. Thanks a lot in advance.

Thanks for the reply Renzuko, but I wasn't the one who modded my Wii. A friend of mine did it and I can't get in contact with him anymore. So I'm pretty much screwed unless I can find someone in the New York area who is trustworthy enough to open my Wii and check it out for me. *crosses fingers*

Have you tried any of the configuration discs?

Also as a last resort if no other option is available, try to use a recovery disc on the Wiikey.

I literally tried all the Configuration Disc including the 1.2, 1.3, GCOS 1.3, and the Hexed 1.3. None of them worked so I tried the 1.9b Recover disc and the backups are still not working. I don't know what to do now. :-(

I don't think you really have any other options than to open it up.

If your worried about messing something up, don't be too worried about it. Its pretty difficult to break it whilst doing this (and I can talk from experience. I had never opened a console, and I was certain something would go wrong, but it was really easy). All you need is a tri-wing screwdriver.

If your worried about doing this, the only other thing I can think of is to use a different DVD media. Otherwise I would take it to Wiikey, because this shouldn't happen.

I read somewhere else that someone had the same problem, and they disconnected from the internet and then reconnected, and it suddenly worked. Its a long shot but anythings worth a try.

Also the Wiikey site is down for unknown reasons, so contacting them will be difficult.

Thanks for all your help Oxadillia. I tried some of your suggestions such as turning off the Internet and using different DVD-R media (tried three different kinds including Verbatim) but to no avail.

So the only hope I have left is to find someone who can open up my Wii and see if the chip is messed up or something and if it can be fixed somehow. Damn and I was so close too.

Had that SSBX in my hands and now I'm gonna have to wait till March like everyone else. But I got to be happy that my Wii still plays originals.

I couldn't agree more. I did possibly the worst attempt at installing a Wiikey (I have never seen something so bad) and I was over the moon when I discovered it had done absolutely nothing to my Wii.

By the way, if you want me to, I could try and contact some professionals and ask for their advice if you think it will help (but the response tends to take quite a while).

I'll get right on it. Check this post, because I'll probably just edit it.

Just to let you know it may be from around 1 day to 3 days to get a response.

The pro that I contacted is just as confused as I am. He doesn't really know what to recommend other than a replacement chip and hope for the best.

Sorry about ending up with a pretty lame answer, but its the best I could do.

I hope that you resolve this problem soon!

Thanks for your help everyone. I found someone to look at my Wii and the only explanation he had was that the chip had died, so he installed a new one and im good as new. Smash Bros here I come.
