So has anyone determined how to back up a PS3 game? Do you have to have a mod chip?
If you have software to rip it onto your computer and a BR burner to burn it to a BR disc does would it work? I am just curious.

Side note - For anyone who has a PS3, when you are playing movies does it suddenly just produce a loud screeching noise? Mine does that with about every other movie I play regardless if it is BR or a regular DVD. Let me know if I need to send that crap out to get fixed or if there is something to download. Thanks.

Dude have you been living in the stone ages,PS3 backups have been out as long as the PS3.

There is no mod chip.

Also playing movies should NOT produce a loud screeching noise, you should ring Sony and tell them your problem, you probably will have to get it replaced.

I was reading a PS3 forum and it stated that back ups are not possible yet. So how do you back up the games and movies? Do you only need a BR burner and ripping software?

There is software to back-up a blu-ray disk called SAK - or Swiss Army Knife. You can also use Linux. The problem is we cannot yet play the back-ups.

So essentially what I am hearing is you can back BR up but you can't play them back. How do you know that the BR is backed up if you can't play it? Only courious because I want to know if getting a BR-burner is even worth the money if you can't produce a playable back-up. I typically back up all my movies and I am switching to BR but obviously haven't figured out a way to back them up. I will just keeping checking these posts until something is figured out. Thanks for the replies.

Oh, well that is good news. I thought neither format could be played the movies or games. But your telling me movies work? Then I might just get a BR burner. Thanks marcusita! I am sure eventually the games will be able to.

You do realize BD-R disks are about 20 bucks a pop right?

Yeah, but just like DL DVDs or standard DVDs the price is going to drop fast. Especially since BR is obviously winning the battle against HD DVDs. Once everyone is on board with BR they will be as cheap as standard DVDs...okay so I am exaggerating but they will get much cheaper.

BD's are not that pricey for what they are.
25Gb is reasonable amount of storage space.
Try these
TDK 25gb Blue Ray £10.33

or you could get a re-writable for experimenting with

Re-Writeable 25Gb £12.63

Yeah but a hard drive is clumsy to move around that is the benefit of a disc. You are looking at convenience with a disc. Marcusita, you are right about the price difference but as you would agree the price of external hard drives has dropped drastically in the past two to three years. And so will BR discs.

For my money I think solid state media is the way to go, though it is the most expensive option at the moment it is undeniably the way of the future.
