If i did a full update with the dvd5 version of brawl would i still need to brickblock the caravan version of brawl for the dl dvd

It depends what region is your console from, and what region is the game (if they are the same it should be fine without brick blocker)

Here's what I did-

1. Ran update from DVD5 OF JP SSBB fully on my 3.1U Wii
2. Got double channels (just moved them away)
3. Got DVD9, burned to dual layer disc, popped it in the Wii
4. Works on my 1.9g Wiikey

Well of course I turned the region override on. I don't use RegionFrii.
