The Pirate Bay fights back against ISP block

article published on 7 February, 2008

In an effort to fight back against the recent Danish ISP Block of its site, The Pirate Bay has launched jesperbay.org as a countermeasure. The new site, named after the boss of the Danish IFPI, gives Danish users detailed instructions on how to get around the block and gain access again to The Pirate Bay. One of the admins of TPB, Brokep, had this to say about the new domain name. ... [ read the full article ]

Why I'm here, God only knows. :) First off, varnull is not Finnish, I'll let them divulge their home of origin. lol.

Anyway I think the issue is NOT the case at hand but the BIGGER picture of controlling everything we do like in those communist countries mentioned. I to some degree feel the same way but entering into a political conversation here is futile and NOT allowed.

Basically our rights (doesn't matter your country of origin) are being attacked and therefore possibly threatened more than we actually realize.

Hope that makes some sense, I've been sick for over a week now. ;)

Then they should look at making copyright material more easily and fairly available.. That has nothing to do with TPB. I am a member and the terms and conditions say that it is illegal to share copyrighted material..
Removing my free choice to make an adult decision doesn't either make me more or less law abiding, all it does is provoke a response of big brother and probably illegal state censorship.

Prohibition has never solved a illegality issue, it just pushes the illegal behaviour into the hands of the real criminals who profit from it.

That's so true. L@@K at gun control, alcohol in the early 1900's (in the states), movie industry (it's happening now....money bandits they are), what's next??

Having 'Pirate' in the name doesn't help them. They also profit from ads on the site and I know they have made big $$$ (we are talking in the hundreds of thousands).

Anyway, if they close it down another one takes its place. It's the old Napster scenario played out again and again. Napster goes down ,kazaa, winmx, bearshare, limewire etc take over. Suprnova dies - TPB, Demonoid, Mininova replace it.

My suggestion to you is don't worry so much, you'll still get your pr0n fix no matter what happens :P

I am a US citizen, served in the military over 20 years, and this is just more government control. This country along with others are allowing their governments to take away peoples freedom. It has been said earlier that what goes on with these download sites having copyright material on their sites may be illegal, but it is still the individual who makes the decision to download, not the site. Government has no reason to control them or block them or anything else. This should not be done but here goes, I put a bullet in a firearm, I have the firearm in my house, a piece of crap breaks into my house or comes thru the unlocked backdoor while I am going out the front door to feed my chickens. The piece of crap "steals" the gun, he goes and shows it to his buds on the street, this moron knows nothing about firearms except what he learns playing video games, he points it at his bud and pulls the trigger and then the crap hits the fan and goes everywhere. Who is at fault for spreading the bud's crap?
Oh by the way if it were not for TPB and some other places, and if it were not for the kind people who make it possible for me to try fully functioning software that I usually end up buying, I would not have some of my software, or books that I own now, and if anybody read my previous post about OpenDNS and TPB, it took a little time but I am able to go to TPB again.
Oh by the way, I don't have any chickens.I also agree it is about money both for business and government, and the little bit the artist, author, writer, actual devloper may see and possibly receive if he/she is watching the corrupt individuals that run governmeny and certain businesses.

I don't know how I missed this 'dog fight'. I will put my own two cents in.

This is one huge power struggle. I can't say either side has the moral high ground. It is about rights. Does the music industry have the right to exist? Should they be able to turn the world into a police state in the hope that they can stay in business? This struggle started small but neither side is willing to back down and will continue to escolate until this really does take in the entire world. It will not end until one or both parties are utterly destroyed!

The music industry wants to keep to the good old days. At one time they were 'stealing' songs for flat 10 grand no strings attached. They actually had an opportunity to increase their wealth by selling music over the web at a fair price. Most of the public did not agree with what they concidered fair. The public is presented with a choice pay for low quality music or 'steal' high quality music for free. After a while, buying music might seem like a hastle. It is easier to 'steal' it. Even though 2 years before, you would not have thought twice about buying you favorite artists new ablum when it came out, now you do. That is a great evil.

Japan has a new law that will probably crush current P2P technology in that country. The US anti-terrorizm bill had a clause that the FBI and homeland security had the right to investigate any computer in the US without cause. I am sure eventually they would have taken inventory of all the computers connected to the internet in the US. This was narrowly defeated in the senate. Bush was outraged! The senate was allowing terrorizm to flourish in the US. That is a greater evil.

I fear the out come will be that both sides win. The media mafia will be sucked dry but not before they turn the world into a police state. I am certain they will be sucked dry. They have too much momentum to veer off in a productive course. They have set the stage for their own demize. The bigger question is are you going to allow your government to turn your country into a police state? I think varnull did get it pretty much right even though he is very extream.

I hope you all wrote your senitors to vote against that Bush bill. I doubt that any of you did. If you are not of voting age, the senators will not know that. They only care about your address. You can even write for your neighbors.

Oh we do not have it bad so far. I say wait till next year! This was too close to an election. Just wait till after the election. I expect to see the US follow in Japan's foot steps.

A civil war/revolution may be in the offing. Not in the next 10 years but maybe in our life times. The whole world will go nuts! People have these insain expectations of the future that it will continue to get better. We are using up our resorces at ever increasing speeds. We are depleting oil fields faster than we are finding new ones. The newer one are much smaller than the ones we are ehausting now. The US average MPG has actually dropped 15% over the last 20 years. If you ask the average bozo why the gas prices are up and the reply is it is a plot against them. The real reason is supply and demand. The world oil supply can not keep up with the demand.

The US is exporting all its jobs and importing in all that it can. Eventually, no one will be able to pay for the imports. That is when the sh1t will hit the fan. Don't get me wrong, I thing the worlds people are entitled to as good a life as the US, CA and some of Europe. The world has a right to be angrey with the US for sucking up all the worlds resorces and poluting the air with greenhouse gasses.

We must strike back.We must insist that any item included in the time limit of the copyright must be available from the copyright owners. If we want to buy a recording made say 50 years ago,it is not acceptable to be told it is "out of catalog" There are plenty of movies. for instance, made several years ago that are not available from the record companies. But they are available as "pirated ware" Can you imagine a record company making a glass mold for producing one copy of a cd? To sum up any item that is claimed to be copyright must be available at the normal price.I also think by law that the recording artists should get a minimum royalty of 25% on the retail price of every cd by law.

reuven25, good point! What country are you from? The US is 100 brittian just changed their law to 75. In the US patents are only 17 years. The difference is crazy! Copyrights are basicly just an idea inventions require much more effort and resorces to create. However, other companies priofit by shorter patents while only the public would benifit from shorter copyrights.

What you need to be is dilligent and write your elected officials when a bill is up for vote. We just dodged the big one in the US. A narrowly defeted bill would have allowed the US government to hack into your computer and examine or inventory what you have for no reason.
