Hello

I have a wii with a d2ckey installed and all was working fine until I tried to play a backup that was just played an hour ago.

the wii will play originals but it won't play any of the blackups that played just a while ago.

The wii was upated to ver3.1u before and I can still go to my setting,so?

Im a little lost as I searched and didn't seem to see problems quit like this one

Thanks

Maybe there is a problem with the D2Ckey install - eg. dry joint or loose connection. Who did it and are they reliable? Pro fitters should check it for you.

It was an install that I tried to do but sent it to someone in Cali. they did the repair and installed the d2ckey. when I look at it under my magnifier all seems to be soldered, I am not an expert with solder but it looks ok.

It's really too hard to be certain just by looking m8 - really needs testing with a meter.

An explanation would be heat. When the chip is fitted it really needs to be tested thoroughly to ensure that the chip is settled and that a change in temperature doesn't effect any change in the joints. Even when this is done it can still occur after prolonged use - even after years. It's an infrequent problem but does occur with various soldered components in all sorts of things.

I appreciate the help.

Funny thing, I left a original in it all night with it ON, I forgot to turn it off. I tried another DVD-r backup, worked great. then after I went to another dvd-r backup game it worked as well. They played it for 30 minutes and I took it out and put the 1st in that I tried and it didn't read it. nothing reads again but originals..So now I am thinking that your right about the heat...when seeing the backup for some time it must be heating up and not when the originals are in. Its been off for an hour and I will try it again this evening...

Thanks

I'm not saying that it's just backups that cause heat - I'm saying perhaps the chip isn't functioning once it gets to a certain point whether you run backups or originals. If there's a minor fault with a joint it would prolly cause it to happen infrequently.

I'm not suggesting you try this but it's kinda like other things that don't work - you give it a bang and the connection is made again causing it to work for a while until it conks out. Then bang it again. lol

Well, I went ahead and opened it back up and watched for the blue light and the red to come on. they both flashed and went off, I remembered from watching the install video that the blue light stays on. so in my case it must be a loose connection..darn darn darn....I just had this fixed, ugh

Any suggestions as I know that the guy that did this probably doesn't give a hoot

I can't help m8 - sorry... I don't know enough about that chip as far as fitting, wiring & testing etc is concerned but there are guys here who prolly may be able to narrow it down for ya if they get to read this post. If you browse this section I'm sure you'll spot who knows what and if they don't reply here then maybe PM one or two.
