As it says I've updated my Wii to 1.9g and dl'd the 1.3 config disc to enable region override. The Wii sees both the update and config discs easily.

The problem is that any actual game disc I have tried doesn't appear. I burned from ISO files which are 4,699,979,776 bytes so I believe they should be viable. The places I got them from both had people in the threads claiming they worked so I'm assuming they actually do. I tried both ImgBurn and Nero at 4x speed using 16x Taiyo Yuden DVD-R. Given that both the 1.9g and config disc work off that media I don't think that is the problem. The only problem I can see might be that the two games are NTSC Mario Galaxy and the DVD-9 Smash Brothers Brawl. But with the Wii updated to 1.9g and with region override on I thought that problem went away.

Anyways if anyone has a clue I'd appreciate it. In the meantime I'm going to try and get a disc from a friend which I know works but that might be several days.

Wii firmware and region of your Wii?

Also I wouldn't bank on the "if it reads this then it should read this argument" m8. I'm not saying the disks aren't ok cos they usually would be but it's not 100% guaranteed.

NTSC Wii, first gen actually..

Not 100% sure on the Wii's firmware itself. It can't get a good connection to my wireless router even sitting 2 feet from it so it's never really been updated. I wanted to use Galaxy to update it to 3.0 but not being able to see the Galaxy disc is making that a bit tricky. If I had to guess I'd say it's firmware is whatever they shipped from the factory when the Wii first game out.

Until your firmware is fully updated you won't be able to run either of those games. I'd work on your connection problem because it's best to update over the net.

I just did a search on this board and there are plenty of posts discussing SMG in the stickied thread. For example...

I had looked through that thread earlier but didn't see anything. Luckily by chance (or not) you linked right to someone with my exact issue. Turns out the games worked fine, it just doesn't show the icon for the game if you need an update to run it. As soon as I clicked on the blank icon where the game should be it prompted me to do an update and then Galaxy and Brawl both worked fine.

Thanks for your help.

That post seemed the most relevant to me actually but there were others which might have had a bearing which was why I linked to that specific page m8 - no accident ;)

Anyway as long as you are sorted :)

If your Wii is having trouble with wireless connections, set your router's wireless channel into either 1 or 11.
