I updated my xbox with the latest iXtreme about two weeks ago. I immediately could not play any games, even originals. I backed up to my original firmware and the same happens. The drive is a Samsung ms28. I have replaced the lense. I have tried the rubber band trick. All with no noticeable difference.

I have done some extensive searching on the internet and can see that this is becoming a very common issue, and not just for flashed firmware boxes either. Are all dvd drives susceptible to this issue, or are only a certain couple getting the issue?

I am curious if anyone has determined if this is a motherboard-side issue or if it is a dvd firmware issue? When MS gets new boxes back in this condition, what are they fixing (if anyone knows)? I am assuming they are swapping out hardware, but what hardware?

I haven't seen as many posts about benq drives having this issue, but it does seem to exist in these.

I am trying to narrow down the next place to look for this issue as it seems pretty common, but a true, base fix has not been determined.....just work arounds. Any ideas as to what is causing this?

Thanks

Hi,

I have had exactly the same problem with an MS25.

The only thing I haven't tried is the rubber band trick. Drive was working fine with Maximus 3.2 I think before re-flashing with ixtreme 1.4 but now nothing works even when flashing to orig.bin. I have tried dosflash with erase, mtkflash, 10 sec trick and even bought a Via 6421 card to see if that worked with no joy.

Would love to find a Benq drive to buy. As I don't know what to do to fix it now.

My drive just says Open Tray when dashboard boots, it loads a disc in fine when inserted but I get "To play this disc insert it into an xbox" message with every disc on any type of firmware I try.

Very annoying.
